Mixing oil with Diesel fuel, What % can I run????
Secured a large quanity of new oil at veerrrrry cheap price (? the type) and have filtered and mixed with diesel in a aux tank and then transfered into main tank. Read where some run 50% and more. I cannot run 10%. The oil will not burn and get terrible burnt oil smell and grey to black smoke. In addition the engine misses and looses power. This is in summer and pulling heavy trailer, so it was loaded. Just does not seem worth effort to run 5% or so. What is others experience?????????????

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
If you what to burn oil in a common rail make sure it is 2 stroke oil. Sounds like you got a smokin' deal (pun intended ) on the oil but like said above, it sounds like it is synthetic oil.

No antifreeze or water. Very clean and looks/feels like motor oil??? It may have been mixed with hydraulic oil, ATF, or anything that is pumped through pipelines. Doubt it is synthetic or blended oil. I call it "Whiches oil" and when mixed with diesel it becomes "Whiches brew". Latest is engine was running so bad, I pulled whiches brew from main tank and filled with clean diesel. Within 25 miles it was back to running perfect with my stage I injectors. Looks like am relagated to run 5% or less as Cummins suggested.

That's interesting. I've run 50/50 in my '05 CR without a problem in summer & that with Syn mix with std dino. It sounds like the oil is highlighting a problem to come. Or I your getting poor spray pattern when mixing with WMO. By the issue that it sounds like that either you have a bad oil source (can be verified by black stone or any other oil sampling place) or you having injector issues. It could be that you need to run the truck good & hard to burn off the carbon or use alot of injector cleaner to clean the nozzles.

If you had regular dino lubricating oil you could run it at any percentage you wanted. But something is not right with your stuff as it runs bad in low percertages.
In my 1st gen Dodge I once ran 100% lube oil (Delo 400). I ran out of fuel late one night and drove till it actually stopped. Then I just poured in about two gallons of oil, bled the system and drove on. Ran fine. On another occasion I bought some oil at a market to get me home because no stations were open. It was in my Isuzu truck with mechanical injection. No problems. I have also run waste lube oil and old heating oil in my Mercedes at all different percentages and it also ran fine with many gallons run through. It even gave the best mileage I ever recorded on waste motor oil.
So, non synthetic oil can be used without a problem in all percentages with mechanical injection. If it's really clean there should be no problem with common rails either but I have not run much in my 3rd gen. Mainly because it has not been easily available or needed.
There are a lot of negative posts on this topic. I've invited, but never seen any reports of damage actually caused by running non synthetic oil as fuel. Many people with diesel powered boats just dump their old motor oil directly into the fuel tanks. No problems.
In your case you should try to find out what that stuff is now that you know it doesn't work very well. Maybe it's epoxy resin, or honey, or detergent.

I run about 10% WMO in my 2004.5, and no ill-effects as of yet. I just filter it, let any moisture separate out, and mix it in. Mileage started dropping after about 20%, plus I don't have all that much to burn, so I kept the mix at about 10%.
