Thumbs up Homemade Biodiesel Cold Weather Test {Pics}

I did a recent experiment with a cup full of the biodiesel i run from an independant supplier who makes it for me.Here are my test results for any of you all that run in colder weather and run Biodiesel.*Note--both pics have Power Service additive in them {one cap full of grey bottle}.After putting the gelled substance in the microwave it took 15 seconds to turn FULLY back into liquid.Picture #2 is fully in liquid form down into the high 30's.

Picture#1:Biodiesel held between 12-30 degrees for a matter of hours with
Power Service additive in silver bottle, notice how it turned into a block of gel!

Picture#2:Biodiesel held between 38-56 degrees for a few hours, note it is still in liquid form here.

I think you need to have a small amount of diesel in the fuel for the PS additive to do anything. Might be mistaken though..
Im going to be doing this soon too. If its a problem Im just going to run it inside my veg tanks where I can warm it a little.

Nice experiment but the silver PS is the summer formula that has no anti-gel properties. You need to use the stuff in the white bottle.
Even then PS says it only works in BD concentrations below B20

My whole point of this, is to show no matter what...bio is worthless in freeezing temps with or without additive. If you had a heater than ran with two seperate tanks so you can run #2 while it heats the other tank up in the cold then switch over, then sure..otherwise..you folks up north better stick to #2 lol!

I've been running B20 for the last five winters with no problem...
It does tend to get a little cold in Montana.

Have you tried the same experiment
with Biodiesel mixed with the Powerservice WINTER formula? (White Bottle)

Might be interesting to see the results.

3. What is the difference between Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost and Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost?

Diesel Fuel Supplement® +Cetane Boost® is our antigel product – it provides superior protection for cold-weather operability. This is the product to use during the winter months to prevent fuel gelling down to -40°F. and equal the performance of a 50/50 blend of No. 2 and No. 1 diesel fuels.
Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost also contains a detergent package to clean dirty fuel injectors and a cetane boost of up to 4 numbers for quicker cold starts, smoother and quieter engine operation with more power, less smoke and decreased fuel consumption. It also contains our proprietary Slickdiesel® lubricator to protect fuel injectors and pumps against accelerated wear from Low and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels.

Diesel Kleen® +Cetane Boost® is the product to use in the non-winter months for maximum engine performance. Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost does NOT contain an antigel and will NOT prevent fuel from gelling.
However, Diesel Kleen has a more concentrated detergent package to clean dirty injectors and reduce exhaust emissions up to 50 percent. Diesel Kleen provides a larger cetane boost than Diesel Fuel Supplement, up to 6 numbers, for smoother quieter engine operation with more power, less smoke and decreased fuel consumption from 4 to 8 percent. Diesel Kleen also contains our proprietary Slickdiesel® lubricator to protect fuel injectors and pumps against accelerated wear from Low and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels.

I had a guy at an oil company around here tell me about the 100% bio and he said it would gel up. Said he had to store it in indoor tanks during the winter(I believe is what he said) to keep it warm. Asked him about additive and he said you had to make sure the additive states that it can be used with biodiesel. We had a cold spell about a week ago, low teens overnight, barely get out of the 30's if we were lucky during the day. I had a tank full of bio and my fuel pressure gauge seemed a bit funny while I was towing my trailer after the truck sat for a few days in this cold. I could actually suck the gauge down into the red? Or it could just be that my coolant has AGAIN leaked out and is causing my gauge to act wacky!!
