Fuel addatives/conditioners

Been hearing chat on the road about the new low sulpher fuel does not have enough lubricating characteristics and thus causes pumps to go out quicker.
I have heard anything from adding a cup of ATF or 2-stroke oil per fill up to using commercial contioners to peanut oil.
It has been discussed a lot by "Bozo" on XM and my mom-in-law (who has close to 300k miles on her 2004) hot shots and says most of the drivers she works with are hearing the same things.

I have replaced a VP44 once and don't what to have to shell out $$ for another or an LP.

ok, i should have searched FIRST.

Well, after posting, I found the Fuel section.
I answered some of my questions there.
But that is me. Don't look for the answer, just ask some one else.

I am sure you will find tons of information by doing a search. I personally have always used Performance Formula All Season Diesel Fuel Conditioner by Stanadyne. There are a lot of alternatives out there. Good luck!

I use Stanadyne PF.
Some other good lubricity additives are Howes, John Deere(same thing as Stanadyne), Lucas, Power-Service, Marvel Mystery Oil, Amsoil, ......there are many others and I'm sure other will post with their favorite.

OK so the fuel conditioners are obviously ideal to use, but I have nearly a full case of ATF from my auto days. Is it safe or harmful to use? if its safe, how much per tank?

Dont use ATF it does not mix well with the fuel so it comes though the injectors as it comes out of the bottle THICK....the old timer used it but the injection pressure is much to high on the newer say 24v motors.
