Black diesel

Moose10 I'm using it instead of paying $3.29 a gallon for #2 diesel, 6 gallons a day. I have cut my monthly fuel cost in half this month. Roughly $200 a month instead of $400 a month.
I have been running it for a month now, up to a 50/50 mix. Started using #2 diesel/Kersone/waste oil mix today. Kersone is $2.39 (tax include) verses $3.29 gallon for #2.
And helping my buddies get rid of allot of waste oil just sitting in their garages makes us happy.

Hotrod, Whats your power like? I have been playing with running kerosene myself. I saw it a few weeks ago for $1.99 and it really got the gears going. Anyone know what the milage on K1 is like?

The power is down a little on the K1, but not much. Does smoke a bit more. But for .80 cents a gallon cheaper, I can live with it. My best combo so far is 50/50 #2/waste oil.

Around here you can still get the taxed red dye fuel. That being said I would really hate to get dipped and see what comes out. Pink fuel, additive, and WO probably wouldnt pretty.

Mix enough oil in with it, and they probably cant tell what color it is....

Give the tax guys a little credit, they're wise to cheater's tricks.

Around here, there is one lady (MODOT employee) that does all the 'dipping'. Fines: My truck 32 gallons or the big stuff 100-200 gallons. It might be different in other states, but I burn 120-150 gallons a month. And in my chevy, they don't even think it has a diesel engine in it. Guess I'm a chance taker.

do you have to change anything on your truck to run waste oil 50/50?
does it have the same power?
oh and to run kerosene can you run 100% kerosene or 50/50 or what?
does kerosene cut down the power at all?

I'd be concerned about the abrasives (soot) from the waste oil affecting the fuel pump... carbon is rather nasty as an abrasive, isn't it?

I prescreen and prefilter the waste oil before putting it in my tank. I am currently running #1/#2/waste oil, evenly mixed (33%/33%/33%). The K1 does slightly affect power and she smokes just a little more. Otherwise, I can live with it. Getting up the nerve to run K1/waste oil @ 50/50 rate. The waste oil should provide enough lubrication.

You might find the 50/50 mix over the edge for performance loss vs benefit. Let us know.
I would consider going as far as 70 diesel and 30 WO but not yet...working my way up to it a bit at a time per tank.

i would be careful about changing the viscosity of the diesel by adding so much WO. If the diesel gets too thick, especialy if it is cold, it will not spray through the injectors and coke them. If you do add a high percentage of WO to the diesel, consider a inline electric heater to lower the viscosity.
