I first ran Bio a couple of years ago, that I bought at the pump in the city. It cost a lot more than diesel at the time (it was only B20) and the people who ran the place were lame and I only did a few tanks of it. No noticable difference in power or mileage. Now the bio at the pump is cheaper than diesel, and when I am in the city next I will be filling up (at a different station). I am also getting ready to start making the stuff. I saw diesel at $3.49/gallon the other day, and that is just too **** much for me. I came home and saw it at "only" $3.20 and got all excited about the great bargain... sad!

Ill field the first one.......well try from the reading i did last night.....

The Soap and glycerin are non-toxic. They said that you can make a marsh of sorts (organism garden to brake it down) so that it can sit and brake down over time. (Don’t dump on garden though.....) Or sewer it....we stick bleach, Drano, and other approved stuff down the tube....this is a far cry from those.....This is from what i read......if im WRONG....let me know.....

I have been thinking of making Bio my self and in some of my research I have read you can run this in your oil furnace to heat your home as well, can any of you that are making bio already confirm this?Thanks Tom

Mixing the glycerin with sawdust makes excellent fire logs.

A new method is being adapted in commercial BD plants that converts the glycerin into antifreeze.
Another value added product for the American farmer.

Good call on the drain, and the glycol... I forgot about glycol. They currently use pig byproducts to make antifreeze (was a strange fact I learned years ago).

I really should have thought of the drain solution. I will not be doing the compost method, trying to make soap, or sending the stuff to a lotion factory. I anticipate around 15 gallons of glycerin a week so it could be a real problem.

My only issue with dumping down the drain is the fact that I'm well and septic!

I'll have to find out a way to run b100 in the winter, but 40* is the threshold for most bio-diesel.

Thanks for the responses, let me know if anyone comes up with more solutions to those 2 problems - I'll do the same for you guys

Just cut it with diesel.....i know you will have to pay again...but.....OR use an anit geller? Will that work? Like HEAT or something similar?

AND is 40* the limit? I thought it was lower than that?

Don't do it buddy. Find someone on a public system, or take it to work with you, or dump in in a nearby stream (just kidding).

I learned to do the same thing at summer camp, we used cardboard egg containers, put sawdust in them then topped them off with wax, then cut them into 12 individuals. Works well.

i use potassium lye (KOH) and pour it in a compost bin or just on a big thorn bush on my property or in the fire pit, just so it not where i walk or whatever. it just breaks down into postassium which is a fertilizer. id like to make the sawdust thing but theres quite a bity of it.

cut it with kerosine in the winter since that doesn't gel. i imagine someones working on an additive for bd but arctic x and other aren't supposed to mix well.
