Bio-Diesel
Have an 01 Dodge with a CTD in it. Had a FASS tranfer pump put on today. I got thinking about useing Bio-Diesel in the truck. Is it ok to use Bio with this FASS pump and will the VP44 be ok with it? Or is there a modification one should do so one can use Bio? Or is the case going to be that Cummins has to modify something? Reason I am asking is that Bio is available here in S.W. Wisconsin, and I was wondering if I should use it or not. THANKS GUYS

You'll be fine. B20 should be 100% safe for your fuel system.
Just be careful, Bio has solvent qualities, you may need to change your filter after the first full tank, it cleans out any deposits you may have had in your tank/lines.
I think D/C recommends no higher than B5 for our trucks, but I have heard many folks run higher blends.

Oh, and, do a search. There is a lot of info on BD here. Look in the fuels section.

I've been burning B10, and B20 in my '01 CTD for a nearly a year now without any troubles. Cant speak of the FASS pump, but I dont think it would effect it adversely.

If you can run it by all means do so, I would love to be running it. Bio diesel is actually a much better fuel than our petroleum diesel we currently burn. It has much much higher lubricity and therefore would be much better for the vp44 and the rest the fuel system. It has pretty much the same characteristics as #2 diesel as far as its performance. One big draw back is that it does raise the gelling temperature of the fuel, but this time of year would be nothing to worry about. And you would have to be getting over a B20 blend for it to matter with that anyway.

Good Luck, some places have mutiple choices as to where to get it, some don't have stations for hundreds of miles.

Don't sweat it about the "clog your filter" thing. Especially if only running b20.
Just run the b20 and then a little before your next scheduled filter change, try and bump it up to b50 for a tank or two. Then go change your filter and be done with it.
Unless you go out of your way to buy crappy fuel, or have run used engine oil on a regular basis in the tank, then you tank will be pretty clean.
My 97 was 6 years old when I started using bio and no problems at all.
Yes, your vp will love bio, yes your fass will be fine with it. You will like bio, and your truck will too. Get it up to b50 or better, and you will really feel a difference. KD
