Anyone making their own??
I'm considering trying to make my own bio and was wondering if anyone here has any personal experience in the process? What would I need to build a small plant from scratch for my own personal use and what has been the actual cost per gallon?
A recipe would be nice too. [whistle] I've seen a few recipes but they are usually very vague or complicated for my simple mind. [eyecrazy] |
I've been thinking the same thing but haven't worked up to it yet. I've been looking around to see what I could find out and ran across this site.

No problem I found another site "journeyforever.com" or something like that. Some of these guys are really whacko!!
They have some good info but mostly kinda vague. They tend to explain it as if you already know how. [duhhh] |
Here is onother one I found but it really seems to be full of "extreme" types. A little different info and some funny reading.

Might want to check for the Dallas area here.

For a quick and simple processor see this:
http://www.veggieavenger.com/avenger...opic.php?t=332 For directions on how to use it see this: http://www.veggieavenger.com/avenger...opic.php?t=414 For making a small batch to see how it is done see this: http://www.kitchen-biodiesel.com/ http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/groupee/...51/m/857600061 For more how to, equipment and supplies, see this: http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/ My cost is 64 cents a gallon. That is with getting the used oil for free. The biggest expense is the methanol, prices vary, the lye is fairly cheap, especially if you buy in bulk. That cost includes my electricity, and my transportation getting the oil. I do not faactor my time. My time happens to be about 2 hours of my involvement total for a batch. It takes longer than that for a batch to be made, but most of the equipment is set it and forget it for awhile, come back when process is done, move on to next step, come back when done, etc. Don't expect to "just start making it". It has a learning curve. Start small, get good at the basics, then get fancy. If I can make good bio, than anybody can. It just takes time and experience to get it right. Now it is a piece of cake. Just heed all safety warnings! |
I found this discussion that starts out simple then advances quite good for someone considering making their own.
