Anyone got their own Biodiesel making station at home?
Does anyone make their own biodiesel at home? I've seen the kits they sell for making biodiesel and it ain't cheap. I'm thinking of piecing together my own kit. Doesn't have to look all fancy. Do you think it would end up being much cheaper? I'm still a newbie on how all the stuff works but I'm going to do some research, starting here. The biodiesel kits look pretty simple. Just a combination of a couple jugs, some pvc pipes/valves, and a pump. Then the catalysts I could get from the suppliers. Any info is appreciated.

youll want to make a variant of the appleseed reactor. theres copies of the plans all over the net. The big parts like the water heater can be had real cheap if you look.

Thanks for the help! I just finished drawing my first prototype for the biodisel making station. Dang it, just last year I trashed an old electric water heater . Might have been 240v though, so not much use at home. BTW, does the 2nd gen 12v use rubber fuel lines?

I am about to buy an appleseed processor from a buddy for 190 bucks with scales pumps and everything. Hope you find everything you need to get yours going.

Any plumber will gladly give you as many old water heaters you want for free. You will have to clean out all the calcium in the tank, not hard, but time consuming. Go to any plumbing supply and get a new heating unit, about 15.00. You can hook up 120 to a 220, it works fine, just slower, which can be better as the unit itself does not get so hot and cook the oil that touches it.

A lot of folks disconnect the upper element in the water heater anyway. You especially have to disconnect the top one if the tank isn't always full when heating. Elements are normally wired in series, running one element on 110 is the same as running two in series on 220. You have no need for 220 with one element.
Don't know if you found these plans http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/appleseedprocessor/

I have been making bio fuel for 2 years. Running in my M37 Cummins AND 95 Dodge Cummins. Both 5 spd's. I run B100 till it gets real cold then run 50% kero or 60% sulphur free. I have not tried it in my 2001 24 valve yet as i just got last week. PM me and I will send a phone number if you wand to discuss how to make fuel.

I know this might not be much help, but I have been told vehicles made late 96 or after 96 are ok on biodiesel as far as the fuel lines are concerned.
