New guy doing a Crew Cab swap
 

Hi Folks,

New to the forums and wanted to say hi as well as ask for info on my swap.

I have been driving my 98.5 for 6yrs and with the g/f and her 2 kids, the regular cab isn't doing it. Since it needs a body job, I'm just going to scavenge it for parts and swap the 24 valve into the crew cab dad and I started restoring yrs ago.

The real Q is.....how much extra trouble is it to swap the 24valve vs the 12valve?? Is it worth the trouble? The 24valve has a 5 speed on it and I want to keep it. The crew cab was mtx also....do I keep any of the original peddle assembly?

There are going to be more Q's, but for now these will have to do.

if you're good w/ electronics i wouldn't think it'd be too bad of a job, just move all the wiring harnesses over, etc. The gauges of couse would have to be mounted and something would have to be fabbed up for that, but the pedals you have now should work just fine. you'll have to be creative on where you put your bulkhead connector for the harness. If you p-pumped the 24v it'd be easier i would think as you wouldn't have to fool w/ anything other than getting power to the pump, but maybe not.

I understand wanting to use everything you currently have...BUT...to do this swap I think a early (89-93) 12V would be your best bet. The pre-P.Pump 12V's are a very easy swap...minimal wiring issues and a complete running truck can be picked up for fairly cheap.

You can re-use all your 5 speed stuff on the earlier 12V motor. Your current pedal assembly will work, but you will need to get a hydraulic clutch set-up from a 91.5-93? But that should be the complete kit from rod to the pedal, to firewall reservoir, to line and hydraulic trow-out bearing.

Thanks for the input guys. The person who was going to do this swap for me has now backed out.....leaving me with a pile of stuff and parts to do something with! Does anyone know of a shop in South Western Ontario who does these conversions?

I have a 1/2 ton 83' chev converted to duallie with 6bt/manual and it's slammed. I have about 4" clearance on the pan. It sits pretty much even with the crossmember. How much do you want for the chev?
