88-98 Chevy/GMC
Hi everyone,
I have recently acquired the 1993 in the sig. It works well as a ranch/farm vehicle, but it has 710,000 on the chassis (its rough!) and is not a great vehicle to be seen in public with.
Anyway, I have considered finding an 88-98 Chevy or GMC in good shape and doing some swapping.
Option 1: Find a 2wd and swap the entire drivetrain
Option 2: Mate the engine to the 4L80 auto in a 2wd or 4X4
I don't want 4X4, as we have several on the place already, but I might change my mind.
Anyway, Im just kinda trying to get a ballpark on what I might be spending for such a conversion, what troubles I might run into with this particular conversion, etc.

Its not too bad actually. Did such a swap in 5 days. The 4L80 takes it fine. Get a stand alone controller from a HumVee or Mechanical 6.5 TD or 6.2
My sig has the truck but basically Chevy 92 1-ton crew cab long bed non dually. I can not complain it was worth it all.
The biggest bugger is the adaptor plate for the GM trans pattern and the starter. But can be done. But also will need a different fly wheel and such. I used the fly wheel from a 4BT and drilled for the TC of the 4L80. But another option is modify a 6.2 fly wheel to fit the crank of the Cummins and use a 6.2/6.5 starter.
Conversion price, depends on your ability. For me $1800 thats with the cost of the Cummins. I know my dad is starting to debate making the adaptor plates to sell. As we will be putting a 6BT in his 3500 Chevy Express 1-ton Van this winter.
