12V into a 2001 3500 diesel chassis
Anyone done this? Seems simple but I'm looking for little things that might slow the swap. I've found a Dodge 3500 xtra cab that needs a motor. I have a 12v sitting in the garage. The truck is complete minus the motor. bolting it all in is no problem but as Mosmoke can attest, wiring is not my thing.
I would like to have everything work. will I need the computer or can I do without?
The tranny is another story. It was bought from a reputable used parts house
and has a upc type sticker in it. Is ther any way to confirm the type of tranny?
lastly, the truck may be converted to 4wd in the future. Can I run a 47rh in it or will I have to stay with the 47re?
thanks in advance

It can and has been done.
I did it with a 2000 6 speed truck. Used an engine out of a 95 I had sitting around. I managed to find a wiring harness and PCM out of a 5 speed 98 12 valve truck. Everything works except the engine light is on and the odometer says no bus because its looking for the ECM to talk to it. I think a 98/99 dash would cure that. I only had to run 2 wires to the 98 harness, one for power at all times for the pull in coil on the shutdown solenoid and the other to trigger the relay that engages the pull in solenoid.
Found out the hard way that all the sensors (and I mean all) have to be for an early 98 truck in order to talk to the PCM correctly. I can't comment on the trans working or not, it should work if everything else works.
