Trans brake for pulling

For years guys have beed using trans brakes on there drag cars to stage, briing the the RPM's and then launch the cars. After whatching the heavily modified trucks run (ie, stack through the roof) it seems as if they are using clutches (a manual) to allow theym to bring up the RPM's. My question is couldn't some make a "soft" trans brake the could do the same for the Pulling trucks. Got to love the inner engineer in me. [duhhh]

I believe this was tried by a drag racer in the Pacific Northwest. Due to the torque this is an unreasonable request. As I understand it, the trans brakes work by engaging 1st and reverse together. With the low end torque of a diesel, the transmission would explode.

I did see that Kyle from CrankItUpPerformance.com is using the emergency brake to put a load on the truck before he leaves the line. Once the boost is built, the brake is released and he goes down the pulling track.

bnraond.
