Pulling 1st gen, what gear
Pulling 1st gen, what gear
Last year I pulled at one of the local county fairs in the "stock" class (anything but blocked suspensions, v-treads, nitrous, propane, twins). I pulled 3rd low but my 200,000+ mile sachs clutch pretty much lit on fire at 96' when the turbo really started waking up. Needless to say the truck got a new clutch about a month back.
Who out there is pulling a first gen that isn't too ridiculous. See sig. What gear are you pulling out of the hole in? We have mainly clay, clay/sand tracks in this area so they can pull real hard or be like concrete (smokin tires) hard, depending how damp the soil is.

If you have a 5spd and no dual disc clutch I don't know if you would be able to do anything but 3rd low. I might you might try 4th low but I don't think that clutch is gonna take that much slipping. But then again I asked this same question so somebody with a little more info can help you out.
with the setup i am running right now i am maxing right around 40 lbs. I have only hooked once with the stage III and i didnt have good traction so i made about 30lbs. I had to advance the timing a lot to get the boost numbers down when i ground the afc and 3200 spring. I was able to hit 50lbs and that was WAY to much for H1C. I can handle 40lbs but still a little more than i would like to see with stock turbo. BUt right now if i was to hook to a sled i would be hitting 40 easy.
