Need Racing Help!

I went to Temple Dragway last Friday night with good thoughts. My frist run was witht the box on 3x5, I ran a 15.0. Not too impressed. I gathered all my thoughts and with the encouragement of my frinds put the box on 5x5. I ran a 15.2!! A freakin 15.2!!!!! With the box off I can out run most of my friends. The smoke it puts out is insane. I was pushin 45 psi boost with the box on 1, and I can peg the pyro with the box off. The clutch wasn't slipping noticeably. I can't figure it out. The only thing that I can think of is that I'm putting so much fuel in there that I'm drowning the engine with fuel and it's not getting enough air with the stock turbo. But it put out so much smoke they had to wait 2 mins to run the next set of cars at the track! Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

There was some tier smoke, but you coldn't see it through the black smoke! Thats what I was thinking as well. It's time for a turbo. Thanks for your input.

What gear are you launchin in? You could prolly launch in 3rd thatd give you a jump, If it was an auto id say put it in 4x4 and powerbreak it to build up boost, Since its standard id launch in 3rd. Just my 2 cents

I'm sure 3rd would slip the clutch way too much. I tried it in 2nd 4x4 and that was pushing it. 3rd is out of the question for me. I know I need the turbo. Just wanted to make sure yall thought the same as well. thanks

could always add some poor mans air ,nos it will make the smoke go away ,but you get addicted and its somewhat pricey for steady useage

4wd, 2nd gear launch at 3k or so rpm, if you have 4.10s do a 4x4 launch in 3rd at 2000 rpm or so. and chuck on a set of stock tires if you have them.

When you launch in 4x4 with a manual when is the best time to shift out of 4wd? Or do you just run the 1/4 mile with it engaged?

Big Smoky 05-27-2005 12:18 PM

I usually shift out around 3rd or 4th gear. Works great. Never had any problems.

I have tried the third gear launch and smoked it up..... the clutch that is, I use second and shift out of 4 wheel going into to fourth also

Going from a stock airbox, stock turbo to an AFE cold air, and an HX-40 I dropped a full second.

From a 15.4ish to a 14.4ish. I allready had the clutch, bigger injectors, comp box, and fuel pumps.

An HX-40, or if you dare,, a 'lil '55 and some big EDM injecotrs would put that truck in the high 13's...

That truck already has big edm's. I think a good summer project for that truck would be twins. After we build a set for my truck, your's should be a piece of cake. Hope to see you in Waco this weekend Eric.
