Launch Tactics

I'm curious about some of the Launch Tactics used by the DTR Crew? I'm talking on the street.

Youre talking about when those pesky mustangs or imports need to be put in there place. Hold the brakes and spool it up to about 15psi and wait for the green, in 4wd of course!

:D Thats what I'm talking about, I don't have a boost gauge yet, what are your rpm's at launch?

I dont know, I only look at the boost gauge. But it will vary from truck to truck depending on the converter, turbo, and other things.

I would recommend calling a tow truck first
Boost launches in 4x4 with stock shafts = tow trucks ;)

No one said anything about stock shafts!

BTW, with stock shafts I wouldnt go above 10psi on a mild to moderately bombed truck.

stock shafts in what gen? I cant imagine breaking the axle shafts, u joints, or anything on my 1gen 4wd. Espeicaly with its pizza cutter tires!

fordsux8269 Apr 15, 2006 01:22 AM

Hes talking bout shafts in the tranny ie.. input, output, intermediate

rockjeep73 Apr 15, 2006 01:23 AM

we are talking about auto tranny shafts, input and or output. they tend to be the weak link, at least in 2nd gens and up. you wont have a problem with your first gen though.

It has a 727 to.. whole diffrent bird.

Good to know, because i wanna take it to the track in a couple weeks and plan on some 4wd launches :)

What is the best way to launch if you have a 5-spd with 3:55's?

even a 727 isn't indestructable... there was one around here that was broken at ~400hp doing a 4x4 launch. Right Zach? ;)

brandon.

OUCH, that hurt! Was that the result of a 2 or 4 wheel launch. From your profile your making some major torque.

That was 4wd, in 2wd the tires break loose right away. I'm getting on the dyno next week, I'm really hoping to break 1000ftlb, but im not sure i'll get there
