Duramax vs. me. ????

I raced a pretty nice looking Duramax last night. We ran from a stop up to 90mph. Start was dead even, when I hit second gear (which slips badly) he gained a truck length. The rest of the race I stayed even (one length behind).

He was lifted a little on 35's and had an open exhaust (sounded wicked). I asked him at the next light what he had done and he told me pdr, pzr, pvr, or something like that with three initials. I assume it was a computer, but does anyone know which one?

Now I can't wait to get my trans installed...I know I would have smoked him.

If it was a PPE Hot+2 those Dmax's can be nasty! But if his tranny isnt built it wont hold the full power and go into limp mode, he could have been taking it easy!
I know with just EFI Live and a built tranny(built by us) my buddies Dmax is nasty and will flat out scream!

yea i think the ppe hot+2 on the higher settings add anywhere from 200-250 hp i think. yea they can make a duramax pretty nasty just by punchin some button on a laptop with that efi live tuning also.

Actualy the Hot+2 Excelarator adds 450hp(crank) to the LBZ and LLY I think. I have yet to put mine into limp mode with Crazy Larry (230whp), but I did set the SES light off because of the EGR. The 40mph punch burnouts are killer though. lol

Yeah, you are quite the looser.

EFI Live is a little more involved than our "canned" tunes but if you have the time and knowledge to mess with it you can have a nasty engine. It really comes down to how bad he wants to cook his engine. I have yet to see a Dmax that runs acceptable EGT's when cranked up.

You are right, turbos for the Dmax are stupidly expensive. That combined with the restrictive log exh manifold that necks down (only certain years) and the DP that is smashed flat at the back of the cab makes it hard for them to breathe.

I still would like to have a reg. cab Dmax to play with. Man, it would be quick Maybe in a few years I can find a nicely ragged LB7 for a few grand.

Those Dmax trucks do run. I had a hard time with a local Dmax one day. I was beta testing a XZT+ from Qzilla & he pulled up next to me & blew a cloud at me. I forgot I didn't have my Edge Drag comp [at the time] on & no fuel tap. I hammered down & was right next to him, but luckily I had to "leave the track". If the race would have went any further, he would have got me for sure. I drove home that night, put the Drag comp back on & been searching for him for over a year now. Just never run into him anymore, but this time....I'll be ready. He runs a excavating company, as I do. Its advertisement!

Recently at the track in NC... with everything I had. I beat him on a race or 2, but he ended up with the fastest time of the day between me and him...
