driving on the beach

OK... so up here in the over regulated northeast this never dawned on me as allowed... but on vacation I saw diesel trucks driving on the beach.

This looks like fun! But I didn't take my truck out 'cause I didn't want to get stuck for a stupid reason. How do you avoid spinning right down to the axle in the sand? The sign said to drop tire pressure to 20psi? I run 80psi to tow... can I really drop to 20psi on a 4 ton truck? I'm running stock Michelins, can I take them out on the sand?

Any advice for how to do this the right way? Next time I'd like to try but I'd like to know what I'm doing first.

ya you are gonna want to drop them down or else you will get stuck. the more air you have in the tire the more wheel hop you have too. traction bars are a nice thing to have in the sand. I drive down to pismo beach california at least 6 times a year and go out on the sand dunes down there and have a blast. I air down to about 12- 16 lbs of air. It's fun seeing 7,000lb diesel trucks beat other trucks up the dunes.

ok yeah i figured it was glamis. deffianalty one of the best places for dunes. the sand dunes hae seem to have been the downfall of my tranny qutie a few times. hahaha last time I went to pismo i lost reverse and then on the way out of pismo I lost first gear and then headin up the 5 to go back home i lost OD. Needless to say it was a long expensive trip. hahaha but deffianatly fun anyways

which beach did u go to? NC. Just got off the beach sunday. Getting stuck is the last thing you need to worry about. people down here will do all they can to pull you out. They will ask you if they can pull u out. The main thing on the beach is WASH WASH WASH afterwords. underneath mainly. I dont like taking it on the beach but it's fun. Drop to 20. I dont like less than that just because if you start hitting the bumps like I do on accident I dont like thinking of popping the bead. Just dont stop in the soft sand. If you spin w/o moving. More spinning will just make you go deeper.

I don't have a quad. i used to borrow a friends raptor 660 and banshee just to get around basically. I more go there to mob my truck and party with old friends down at cal poly but I am going the weekend after thanksgiving my next time I don't know if you plan on going down there at that time or not but it's usually fun during that time. where do you live at in waterford. I used to work at waterford irrigation so i know the town pretty well. My family owns a dairy out by woodward resivior we have like 400 hundred acres with a lot of riding land out here.

hahah i go for the same reason but i have to say my truck was on the bad end last time i went. I blew up a high perfomance tranny but the good news is even without reverse, 1st gear or lockup. It still made it all the way to oakdale under it's own limping power. hahaha I have abuddy that lives way out past waterford out in hickman on montpelier rd so i go out there a lot. maybe i'll see your truck around.

yeah r u gonna pull? if you are watch out that track is nasty. I pulled in turlock this year in a buddies truck and in mine last year and tied for 1st place but since then my truck has pulled 1 time and that was at newman and i tell you what, nothing good came of that place. hahaha it's it like pulling on a rock. Lots of hard pan. but i plan on seeing how my new tranny does pulling plus i just recently put the USB on and would like to ry a pull with that too. It's fast but i have yet to pull with it. So i am anxious to see how it does.
