What is a gladhand? I see talk about 'em in parts books

wow, do I feel like a moron. I have messed with those so many times I lost count. I had always assumed they were a variant of a Chicago fitting-so thats what I called them

That's probably the correct name for them, don't feel bad. The're also used on rail cars.
