Clean idle diesel???
For those of you in the know, what is meant by the terminology "clean idling diesel"?
I saw a sticker on a truck that said it was a clean idling diesel and have no idea what qualifies it to be so. I know drivers can get in trouble for letting their trucks idle too long, so is a clean idler exempt from those rules?

Without going into detail about DPFs and particulate matter and so on, it means that the engine emissions system is capable of burning so clean and cleaning the exhaust so much that it can idle however long it needs to. So you were kinda right, they are exempt from certain idling laws. And yes, California sets the standards that must be met to be a "Certified Clean Idle" engine.
