MBE4000 need more power

Anybody know of any mods available to the big Mercedes? Its just a rebadged Detroit, but Mercedes acts like its some amazing engine, and I think it pretty well sucks. It's already the factory max hp at 450. What else can I do?

I'm not a fan of them myself. but its an actual mercedies engine badged under detroit. they are more for the fleet/linehaul market. thats why they;re capped at 450 horse. but they're been dropped as of this year and the Detroit DD13 will fill that void. the DD15 replaces the series 60 and and DD16 is the highhorse option. I'll ask around at work tommorrow if anyone knows any tricks but I've personnally never heard of anyone hotrodding an MBE4000. mostly hear of guys trying to not crack the heads and keep H/G in them. never mind the junk egr coolers.

I would imagine PDI has done some with them. Cant hurt to try.

It's for my Renegade Toterhome. The Mercedes sucks! The exhaust brake is worthless and I guess they didn't offer a real engine brake. It's pulling quite a bit of weight, the entire rig is ~80ft and the trailer is a liftgate stacker, with two race cars, tools, parts fuel golfcart etc.
Who is PDI?

ok so talking to my foreman today, nexxus makes a unit call a mini diag. and there is a series of codes availiable that can be input to the ecm via the minidiag that increase HP over 450 by increments of about 20-30 rwhp per code. each code level basically increases the injector response time through the unit pump "on time"

apparently we have a minidiag in the shop, i didn't even know that. the foreman is the only one with the codes though. they're not readily availiable to the public or even to us. its apparently a factory level "fix" for low horsepower complaints.

I don't know what to say about that. just last week on the dyno we stroked up an MBE Freightliner M2 chassis motorhome. I wasn't it that shop at the time, but I can get the details on it on Monday.

I have an '04 Columbia, Renegade Toter Home with a 4000/450 hp. It's not aweful weighing in at 53,000 with 30' stacker trailer but certainly could stand more.

That is EXACTLY what I have, mines the 34' box, twin screw, with 32' liftgate stacker, both 05 Renegade. When loaded for a 4 day race, two cars , parts tools, food and 4 guys, it's lacking some serious power!

I guess you could say though, its not a standard practice exactly. As you need factory level information to adjust the fuel maps on the MBEs. Not just a dealer programming station, but factory level.

Don't those Mercedes use some kind of tranny brake as well as a exhaust brake.

there are no "jake" brakes on the exhaust valves. they use a decompression valve, 1 in each head. actuated by engine oil through the CTV - constant throttle valve. which unloads compression in the cylinder, but in a different manner. and theres an integral exhaust brake on the turbo. I personally don't think it works nearly as good as jakes, but its what they've got. the De-airration line also runs beside the ctv line under the egr cooler. if and when one or both start to leak. they're miserable to change. have to strip the whole right side.
