Big Rigs Talk about other Cummins powered vehicles here. As a matter of fact, it doesn't even have to be Cummins, but it will be diesel! :)

Best all around mechanical cummins?

I'd like to switch out the 5.9L cummins in my 03 F750 to upgrade to more power.

What is the best engine that is mechanical to get? Kind of a best all around as far as power, fuel mileage, parts availability, able to mod for more power, reliability.

12V 5.9 Cummins is hard to beat. Upwards of 400HP isn't tough with a set of good injectors.

P-pump 12 valve is the oxen of the cummins engines.

My old 95 would out torque anything newer and act like it enjoyed doing it!!!

I can fit any larger engine out of a semi in this truck. The 5.9 is really the best of any cummins engine? I'm not limited to just pickup truck engines.

I'm old school, so take this for what it's worth, but I'm kinda partial to the old Big Cam Cummins'.

I know you are wanting a Cummins, but the 425 b model and c model Caterpillars are tough to beat. Just a thought. MY family has had a trucking business for close to 60 years. Cummins are good but its tough to beat a CAT.

An 8.3l Cummins or a 3126 cat will be all that will fit in that chassis configuration. Short money goes to the Cummins.

What limits the engine selection? The frame width or ?

I have the 3126 in a couple of dump trucks and don't really like them. Parts for CAT engines are rediculous.

frame, front axle, cab mounting, cab structure. F650-750 frames are manufactured by Navistar, they are the same frames you find on a 4700-4300 series medium duty.

One engine I didn't consider is the DT466......Can these be modified pretty heavily and get a lot of power from?

Also, how much power can be had from an 8.3 cummins?

as hard as it may be to believe I inframed a 3406E cat cheaper than i got my 466 international done for.....lessson learned about not trusting my friendly neighborhood dealer but long story short full inframe, head inspection and 2 years free warranty on my cat was under $12000
