2000 International 4900 dt466 died no crank.
Fuse 17 keeps blowing when the ignition is turned on. The fuse panel show 17 as IGN Neutral/ position IVS.

Since I don't have access to the wiring schematic for that engine I'm going to assume that since "Fuse 17" keeps blowing, you should try and trace where the wire goes and what it controls to start out because you have a short in that circuit. I've heard that ground wires on those engines can cause nightmares.
Can you pull any trouble codes if any are present? Just trying to find a starting point to go from. |
I've tried using the diagnostic button and getting codes but it has never worked. The driver said there was no response to accelerator pedal then the truck died. It will not crank since then. Of coarse the two wires coming from f17 go into the giant loom of wires that go to the engine. We were having trouble with the starter sticking on at startup but that quit a couple months ago. We just found a loose wire grounding to the starter. We are testing the starter at this point to see if it works. I just wish I could get a schematic for this truck. There is a few website that have it but they look suspect and want a credit card even though they say it is free.

Maybe it needs a can of Vroom!

Pull the ignition switch out, its held in by the the chrome nut on the front. You may have a wire shorted to the ignition switch leads on the back of the switch. Should take 2 minute to pull out.
Repost what you find, we'll help you get it straightened out. |
Turned out to be the starter. I did look at the ignition switch before pulling the starter and testing it. It looked fine. Back up and running today.
