Does anyone have a Smarty?

I went to the dealership and they didn't think my truck could get 3 cyl high idle, once he tried it wouldn't work. Just got errors that it wasn't connected for ignition wasn't on.

Anyway, does anyone have a Smarty for my generation truck that I could load a program and unload to get the high idle? Thanks!

The dealer up here SUCKS!

Like I said before this sub-forum is usually pretty dead but it's worth a shot.

You migh check out the guys over at simard automotive. (451-9529) I hear good things about them and they apparently have one or two over there that are deisel savvy.

I've never used them personally (1st Genner ;)and fix my own broken junk [laugh])but I know a few guys that have.

Yeah, there's only a few up here active on the forum, didn't think I saw any with a Smarty, figured it's worth a try. I might just buy a dowel rod and trim it to the right length. Double as a tire thumper:)

I have a hand throttle cable attached to the pedal lever for high idle in the cold.;)

Would it be possible to see a pic of that setup? Sounds nice...

I'll get some when it's light out. I parked outside due to laziness last night.[duhhh][dummy]

It's just generic cable with a friction lock on it. Press the pdeal where you want it and lock the cable in place. They are availible at Napa and the like pretty cheap.

Thanks, I think I'm gonna get on that....

Due to technical difficulties, this message was delayed....... Sorry.

Here they are.

Just a small bracket attached to the dash brace to hold the handle.

Attachment 26329

And the cable attaches to the throttle pedal lever.

Attachment 26330

Pretty simple.

HTH.

Thanks! Oh, yours pulls out to lock right? I was picturing in my head it pushing for some reason, makes more sense now.

Twist left 1/4 turn, pull out to desired RPM, Twist back 1/4 turn right to lock.
It pulls on the upper half of the throttle pedal lever above the pivot.

I had one on a '93 that went all the way to the lever on the fuel pump. That one adjusted by turning an knob in or out. Just depends on how you want to set it up....

You said napa should carry that? I bet they got it, for some reason though I always feel like I'm bothering the guys at Napa, I know it's their job and all. [verymad] Maybe I'll shop before I go there.

I would call that a hand throttle, does it have a part name or number? I can't find it under that name, can't go out until tonight.

No numbers or anything on mine. It's probly been in there over 10 years. I'd just swing into Napa and look on the shelf for what I need. Either that or go down to Power and Transmission on Van horn. They are pretty helpful there and will have one for the OTR trucks that will work.

The guys at Napa are usually helpful as well only problem is they are the $8/hr kind of guys ans need a bit of directing occasionally. [laugh]

nothing like the unique experience of having some parts guru act as though they are doing you a favour by selling something to you.

Guys, if you need odd parts and so on , Go talk to Jim Sullivan at Tracer International/Alaska Generator.

I have dealt with him quite a bit, and he is a standup guy to do business with. Mostly heavy equipment stuff, but he can get pretty much anything you want.
