When I was looking for a heater, you have to be a certified installer to get the kit for the Webasto or they don't warranty a thing.

I went with Espar instead. The install will require you to drop the tank if its the same fuel setup as espar. Glycol plumbed in series with your heater core.

Once you get one, you wonder how you did without.. I got mine in a bulk deal through a local performance shop. Heater, 7 day timer kit installed under $2K.

If their pickups are anything like mine, there is a second draw tube in the tank for things such as these heaters already. If you have it, you just have to hook the fuel line on it. I used the Espar one anyway, but couldve used the second OEM one.

You can also lift up the side of the bed. I've never dropped the tank before, but I imagine lifting the bed is easier.

There is a place in BC selling the espar D5 or something like that for around the 1450 shipped to your house. I found them on e-bay. That is canadain dollars. Also Cummins western Canada sells them for 1575 plus tax. This is for the kit to bolt them directly into a 3rd gen dodge alos. The mount and the in cab heater hose and such. I might be butin one come break up if i can afford to. So is there a DTR in SASK. Cause i might be heading that way soon. I might still have to stay apart of the alberta chapter.

I don't know if the 3rd genners have the extra pickup or not. They had to drop mine, only to the end of the bolts, to get the fitting on for the fuel. That was the most headache, air in fuel. The tubing they send you in the kit isn't very user friendly...

From when I talked to Dodge, DC also makes a heater that is direct copy of the webasto. Most of the recent 3rd genners already have the mounting spot on the frame to just plug it in. Cab heat is the only tricky spot.

I have yet to run the extra wire for the in cab heater control from the Espar.

That was the hardest part, finding the wire in the harness coming out of the PDC, then soldering it. Do you have an FSM for your year? I know Chris has one for a 96, the wire colours are probably the same for 97 as well.

Its nice having that if you're gonna sit in the truck for a while, just kick on the heater and the fan will keep going.

The espar d5 kit for the dodge from cummins has all of the cables, plugs, ect that allow you to run you heater fan ect ect.....but with this kit, there is NO cable cutting or splicing. it came with all the factory wiring plugs.....simple is best!

I scored a new Webasto TSL-17 for $750 + GST. I had to make my own bracket *shrug*.

Webasto's installation manual suggested parallel with the heater core, which has worked just fine for me.

The heater is super awesome. It makes winter much more bearable.

For the guys that are new to the Espar/Webasto heaters - its a good idea to run them a few times during the summer months as well.
