Turbo Swap HY35 to HX35
Turbo Swap HY35 to HX35
Well I swapped out my HY35 for an HX35 and so far noticed a few changes. EGT's dropped quite a bit. Highway cruising temps were around 750 - 820 with the HY. Now they steady around 680 - 730 which is what I like.
I dropped in boost pressure. I did a boost leak test and found two leaks which I repaired. Just needed to snug up two clamps.
With the HY I could get up to 30 PSI boost on stage 5 and that was with the two leaks I found. Now I top out at 27 PSI on stage 5 with the HX. On stage 3 I would max out at 26PSI with the HY and now with the HX I max out at 24PSI.
Does this sound right? I can understand the lower EGT's but a drop in Boost?
I like the cooler exhaust temps which is what I was shooting for. I will know more after thanskgiving weekend. I will be hooking up to the new holiday tailer then and given it a run.

Hey Rob
I'm glad the turbo worked out for you. Your drop in boost sounds about right.
When I went from that turbo to my PDR35 with a 14 cm housing, I went from 36 psi down to 30 psi but I had higher air flow so it works out just fine.
I knew you would like the difference, now you need a set of injectors to wake it up a bit.

Hey Rob
I also forgot to mention, check the brass elbow on the turbo for your wastegate line, I believe I might have left the boost elbow in back from when I ran an Edge EZ.
It may make a difference if you go to a regular elbow, hard to say. I still have the EZ if You want to give it a try also.

Ya thanks for the turbo. The more I drive with it the more I am liking it. Can't wait to hook up the trailer. You can even hear more of the turbo now from the exhaust. I noticed it this morning when warming up on high idle.
Funny you mention injectors!! That was exactly what I was thinking as soon as finished my test run with the turbo. I will let you know how I make out after thanksgiving long.
If anyone is interested I have a HY35 sitting on my bench collecting dust. If you are please PM me.......I wouldn't want to get in trouble again.
