were can i get a set of pistons in alberta ? any one now [coffee]

12v? I think you can get coated marines from Cummins.

They are going to be pricey, here in Alberta. Anybody know what kinda of coatings that they use on the pistons? Keep us posted on what you find buddy.

Regular pistons are $400 ea from cummins, i can just imagine what coated ones would be.

Let me see if I can give you some info here.

Cummins does make a piston that is coated but I am pretty sure it is a marine piston. You can also send your pistons out to have the coating done.
Scheid Diesel has done my stock pistons before or they can order you coated pistons from Arias or Mahle. The coatings vary, but they are generally a high heat ceramic coating and IMO they hold up very well and do make the pistons last longer. One other thing I would add is the price that DTR Member ccmckee gave you on the price of Cummins pistons is close, but if you shop aroung on-line you can find some better prices than that.

Rob, is it for a 12v, 24v or a common rail? I can probably find you 6 pistons for the same price as cummins parts would sell you two.

John P, How did they coat the piston? The top, bowl, skirt, inside?

On the stock set of Cummins Pistons that Scheid Diesel had coated for me they coated the sides of the piston and down the skirt. Not inside though.
The Arias and Mahle Pistons are entirely coated, but they are forged pistons, not cast.

alberta engine sells federal mogul pistons for a **** good price. If you have to resort to buying pistons and getting them coated

Talk to Snedge on comp-d. He is a Cummins partsman and supposedly has unbeatable prices.

well when i put my 12v back together i was thinking of coating the pistons ,, the but it depends on price , i no it does make a differents i had a set in a gas engine night and day differents

I agree with you on the coating not only making a difference on the heat, but with the ones I had I also saw less wear on the sides of the pistons too.
