More Twins

I finally had a chance to get everything together. Took way longer then I had anticipated but it was worth it! I just wish I would of done it along time ago. Its not any fancy BB Garrett's but it does work good! Spool up starts 13-1400 and no more problems pulling the trailer when its hot out. Its nice being able to go from 3-4 and the boost gauge starts moving with the throttle. Even cruising empty its around 4-5psi with 2-3psi on the primary. No more laggy turbo.
Fits really nice in there, only complaints are I thought the powder coating was going to hide more then it does, the color doesn't help that either. But I was tired of grinding and didn't want to make it to thin. Also the interstage pipe could of been 1" longer to allow the 4-3.5" boot to fit better. But its holding together good and no leaks. Turbo's are 57/65/.80 - 78/87/1.10. The S478 spools very easily and that six blade wheel screams! Sounds like a Jet at ~25psi! Very nice work BigD!
The black piping looks great, very similar to my black piping. That also looks like a Steed exhaust manifold in there also. Is there an external wastegate in behind there? Plus the nice BD stainless steel air filter heat shield. The S478 looks great & it's huge. That will move some air! Great job & setup all around! |
Looks really good!

Good question, I'm curious about the lower turbo mount also. Lucas here is a thread from CF where I posted some pics of lower turbo mounts. Perhaps it will give you a few ideas. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98...rbo-mount.html |

The VE block and motor mounts are different. That source bracket is for the newer trucks. We typically build our own bracket. The source bracket is too close to the block and causes lots of extra effort to build the down pipe.
Looking good bigD, nice job. We are starting a new twin build shortly. We are going with a S476 (billet) over a S500's (110mm billet). Lots of extra bits and pieces going in this build. Still ordering parts. Going to be a neat street truck.[coffee] The S478 is an decent all around primary, I was supprised on how well it spooled. Which one did you get? |
the steed speed manifold gives me a boner:D
thanks for the pic. |

thanks for the pic. Great build BigD. The stainless lines are sweet. May have to do that when I get the powder coating done. |

Sounds like a pretty wicked street truck!
Jose called it the LI S478. The LI billet wheels, [duhhh][laugh] Supposed to be 20-30 grams less in weight than the cast impeller. Add in that polished race cover[laugh] price wise it adds up pretty quickly. [duhhh] The S478 is a one wicked street primary twin turbo.[laugh] Just wished I could afford one.[guitar] |
