You dont know what he wants for that do you?

Luke, its just back halfed. runs 30X10.5in on 31 spline 9in. I want to build a full chassis. There would lots of stuff to change. He wants $14k for the truck. The motor has a few goodies, but nothing real good. The truck runs 11.6's. The truck weighs around 2650 lbs. I personally rather go with a ranger for $150, and buy a full tube chassis for the truck. At the end of the day, you'll have a 9in 40 spline rear, mustang front end, rack, drag brakes. I'm just waiting on Brett to move, so we have a place to park the truck. I should be dropping off the head to get done up. Everyone that I talk to about building a race injection pump, tries hard to up sell you into building a motor.[duhhh] We will be building the entire motor, truck here in my or Brett garage.

We will definately get you/anyone to get involved during the building-up. Race/street trucks that are built to run fast, are big projects. I want to run into the 9's, on a skinny budget. Prostock its a tuff class, just not a lot of trucks that run in it.

As my grandfather always used to say "It takes a community to build a race car"

Mike, move day is Feb 26th. So March 1st I should be unpacked enough to be ready for the ranger.

 cool stuff buddy, thanks for your patients. We will start the fun shortly.

I want to order parts for the chassis shortly. We are gonna not do the complete full chassis this year, the money issue and timing. I'm still figuring out all the little parts that aren't listed in these complete 4 link/rail kits. The motor is going to be easy and fun build as well. I have a set of twin built for the truck. I don't know what the truck will run. All I like to do is make a few passes and see what happens.

Luke, your thoughts on -> would you run a fabricated rear axle 9in housing, 40 spline axles, full billet spool. To run the 9in 40 spline you new a 3rd member thats 3.25 to accommendate the larger spline count. I want to put a brace on the back side of the housing. I want to go with the mild steel, just for the easier weld.

I've seen a couple of those sheetmetal style diffs before. they are uber beef for sure. but Uber $$$ too go with it.

I mean if you want to spend the cake by all means. but I couldn't. i'd be shaving an narrowing a D80 LONG before shelling out for one of those.

but thats just me.

Mike Holmen 02-01-2010 10:29 PM

9in stuff isn't that bad. You can get axles for $425 40 spline. A 3rd memeber 3.25 bearing, gear and spool for $558. There a few drag trucks running the 9in 40 spline stuff. I was abit nervous myself about using that axle to start with, but after seeing a few big power trucks/cars use them, hopfully it will work. The axle will only be around 28-30 inchs wide, the rest will be tire. Time will tell. The parts are from currie and strange, so they should be pretty good stuff.

As for the dana 80, where can you buy length custom axles? The 80 is a good choice, but I want axles pretty short.

Anybody know if Race city or any local tracks will be open this year?[laugh]

morkable 02-04-2010 04:33 PM

race city is open. I have a race coming up there at the end of may I believe

Mike Holmen 02-04-2010 09:55 PM

Sweet news buddy. If you need a place to stage from, you can do it from my place. Lots of diesel heads nearby if you need a helping hand.

Hopefully I can put together a truck as well this year. Hopefully I get within a truck length of your truck. I might call my ride the redneck smoker[laugh] I though of that one sharing a beer with my neighbor tonight.[coffee] I might paint that onto the door with a paint brush, just for the effect.[laugh]

1-5-3-6-2-4 02-04-2010 10:41 PM

Oh ya no doubt.

Mike Holmen 02-05-2010 08:55 AM

I'm hoping to have smoke trail that the old Red Demon would be proud of. I realized yesterday, that my truck really doesn't smoke any more.[laugh] I sure miss the chance to fill up the intersection, like she used to do. I guess that I was on an anti-smoking side last year, this year, its hard to say.

Here is an update on what we have in the works here at the Airdrie Sunk-Works department. Hopefully tomorrow we can weld in the 4-linker and finish cutting and welding in the motor.
