heated seats question

I have a chance to pick up heated seats for my truck. I'm wondering... I presently don't have the heated seat option... what is involved? Replacing the seat, plugging in the harness, and adding a switch in the dash?

Thanks

Yeah, I knew you'll get it wrong......Goes like this:
Pick up heated seats, drive them to my house, replace heated seats with mine, replace mine with yours, add switch in my dash )

Are you aware that you can buy Rostra seat heaters for your cloth seats? They are just over $100 a seat I believe.

Well, at $75 for driver, passenger and centre console, leather, heated and upgrade to power passenger... I couldn't turn it down. The leather isn't perfect, but I'll survive...

Now... I need to figure out how to graft on one of the new heated steering wheels to my truck. I'm finding my knuckles get really sore in the cold any more... If anybody figures it out... please let me know...

Yup, but I don't think there is any wiring harness in the older trucks for that, so I'd have to run a new circuit. And... I need to find an affordable wheel - if they even mount the same way... Research to do yet...

Dunno, when they came up with heated handles on the chainsaw I thought they were useless, do you really need a heated steering wheel? how about gloves while you heat/start your truck?
I drive stick and I smoke so I keep the heat at full blast when I drive..........., heated steering wheel just like heated chainsaw handle will prolly just make my hands sweat........ Heated seats are nice tho.........

I've tried the glove thing. basically, I'm a prime candidate for arthritis later, if my mother is any example. Just plain uncomfortable. Yup, I can get along without it, and probably will, but... if the right deal comes along???

I like it on my 2010 truck. Helps take the chill off, let us know what you find out for heat wheel. I might want one on my 02 truck.

Can you get an aftermarket chilled seats for the older trucks. Another nice feature on the 2010 truck.

OK. So I know I need a new plug from my wiring harness to the seats. And I need the switches. Does anybody have the appropriate wiring diagram I can scam? Is there anything else I need?

I only found one person on a search of the forums that had done this, and I sent a PM, but haven't received anything back yet. Getting anxious to start gathering the last parts...

Thanks

I had my mechanic put my heated seats in under the cloth. I don't recommend them. To long to heat up and just don't take the chill out like you'd think they should. Last winter I had a diesel coolant heater installed, they're made by Espar and I'm sure there are others. Best money i've spent for heat in the winter. Truth be told, I wish I hadn't done the seats. If you havent' already spent the money go for the diesel heater.

cheers

I just installed heaters in my aftermarket leather seats. They work fine but don't get nearly as hot as factory heaters do. It takes about 5 minutes before you feel the heat but it's nice once it starts heating up. I like them....

Ironbrew, you should get the wiring harness as well for the factory seats. Everything should just plug in. See a few trucks with the plug under the carpet. My 02 seats just plug into one plug, so you might get lucky.

I like the seats in both of my trucks. The new cool seats are awesome as well. It supprised me on how much they cool you off on a hot day.

Found this for wiring info...

http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/2006/dr/drmo.pdf

But... to clarify... The wiring harness plug for the unheated seats is different than the plug for the heated seats (It seems it isn't just me that has run into this).

Mike - are you saying there is an additional plug for the harness under the carpet, and I just need that new section of harness?

Thanks

Hard to say, mine was under the carpet. You might lucky. Depends on what options are on the truck. Worst case grab as much of the wiring harness and switchs from the donor truck. Both my 02 and 08 trucks were like that.
