G56 to NV5600
Anybody done this swap? My G56 has worn syncros for 5th 6th and reverse.
Seems the parts for these either don't exist or they cost more then my last years wages.
been toying with swapping in a NV5600.
Just wondering if anyone has done this. What the cost was and what issues parts were needed.

Should be a direct bolt in I would think. Only thing is the electrical sensors for reverse and the tcase might need a different input spline. Other than that I dont think itmwould be hard. I belive the clutchs are different also so now would be the time to upgrade.

I had the g56 in my 05 and I liked it. Truck had 280,000km when I sold it.
This 2012 has 137,000km and the tranny is capping put. Is it a betterrible tranny then the NV. Not sure. But I can't find parts for the g56. Everyone is on back order and or the parts cost more then a new tranny.
My plan is to possibly get a nv5600 installed for now to keep me going then when the parts become avaliable for the g56 to rebuild it and reinstall.
I am pretty sure this tranny was bad from new, but typical of dealerships they said within spec. It always was a bit of a pain to go it 5 or 6 and some times reverse. It is what it is and I have to find an affordable way to keep my truck going.
If anyone has any help on finding parts and on the conversion that would be awesome

Have you tried a different fluid like a manual transmission fluid (Amsoil MTF, Pennzoil Synchromesh or Redline MTL) and not the factory fill ATF?
Standard Transmissions in Texas rebuilds G56's so they might be able to help you even though you're located in Canada. Standard Transmission - Contact Us - Located in Fort Worth, Texas and Tucson, Arizona

My son blew the G56 in his old 2011, it was so bad the case wasn't even usable. The rebuild was $7000 at a shop here in Edmonton, it did take a long time to have the work done as parts were very difficult to find and that was early 2013.
