Espar, Proheat, Webasto..........

what are you guys useing? Tate what model are you rocking? I'm looking to get one for my 12v going in the Chevy. Looking for models and likes, I can get a price break on one since I work at Waterous now.

I like my Espar. I got the universal kit D5WSC and comes with the draw straw with the 7 day timer. Works like a charm.

Dont think you could go wrong with either. The Webastos are supposed to be better and more reliable over time.

That said, my espar worked great.

Im not sure about the Proheat - as far as I know, the Proheat is just a pad that glues onto your oil pan:

Or are you talking about something else Luke?

Proheat is a diesel fired coolant heater, not as prolific as the other 2 but. lots of rig deck engines have an X45 on that I've seen. they also make an M series which is smaller. Highway truck can use the X45 as well.

I don't know what I can get them for, i just know I get an employee discount.

Interesting - seems a little like overkill though

ya no I didn't mean I want a proheat, just that its an option. theres other brands out there over that too.......

but thats 2 votes espar.....I think tate has the little espar too.

Dr. Evil 09-30-2008 09:43 PM

I would seriously check out the Webasto Blue Heat. I have heard very good things about them.

Ive got the little Espar - its a D4 - they dont make them anymore. I believe Tate has a D5.

Darryl&Rita 09-30-2008 11:06 PM

Ran a D4 two trucks ago, last one had a Webasto. This one, if it gets one, goes back to Espar. It was a little more system friendly. Little smaller, little better electric draw-down, little better fuel. Nothing awsome, but over a winter, it added up.

My two co workers each have the Webasto. One runs a GMC the other 06 Dodge. Both had no issues so far. For what ever reason i was looking at the Espar. Don't ask me why but i gotta get it done soon. I hear that on the 08's there is a take off allready on the tank so they don't have to drop it for the install. Can anyone confirm this ??? Should save a few $$$$ when getting it done.

I have a Webasto, got a good price from a deal at an International dealer.

Works great... the engine is at 40C or so in about 30 minutes regardless of the weather.

I've got or had the espar, came with the truck. it stoped leaking so i tryed to take it apart but most screws were to corroded so i'm waiting to get a new one. It did work good when it worked.

morkable 10-02-2008 08:10 AM

Tates is a D5 like mine... I got mine through a bulk deal with a local performance shop. $1800 installed.
