Close call...
 

As some of you might've heard by now, last Tuesday while ripping the last piece of trim for my windows I got four of my fingers at left hand caught in the table saw blade.
2 open fractured fingers, the index and middle finger mangled up pretty bad, a total of 36 stitches, thumb was untouched.
Was alone at the time and luckily I didn't passed out.
Yesterday I went at the clinic where they took a look and it looks ok, but they had to break and reset the 2 broken fingers - they were crooked as some of the bone is missing on both knuckles then put them in splints. Hopefully next week I'll have the stitches out, but there's tendon and nerve damage on the ring finger and pinky
Lulu as always been supportive, unfortunately our 4 year old daughter walked in the house together with my wife before she got a chance to clean up and got really scared by the amount of blood that was all over the place. Dale, a family friend generously offered to finish painting the remaining windows on his spare time for free, however we will help him with at least gas money and of course food/drinks while he's working.
Although badly injured, I'm glad I still have all the fingers..........
On the bright side, since I can't drive due to pain killers and loss of use of my left hand, I'll probably be glued to the laptop for the next 2-3 months.

Wow!!! Glad to hear you're doin alright! Could've been much worse. Saw a kid do the same thing in shop class in high school.....but with a Dado blade!!!! Needless to say, after that incident, his fingers were a bit shorter on one hand than the other but he did retain them. That was one nasty site to see since I don't do blood and guts and meat too well!!![yuk][yuk][yuk]

Again, glad to hear you're ok.

**** always use a push stick man. Glad it didn't turn out as bad as it could have.

Hope you have a speedy recovery.I have seen/heard plenty of whoops in the bakery industry over the last 25 years of service---from lost fingers/broken limbs to severe burns---even death, but most if it does not make the news.I remember my dad blowing a gasket:o years ago when he saw the way i used mitre saw as planner([dummy][dummy][dummy][duhhh][duhhh][duhhh]),lucky i didn't loose some fingers but he was pretty [nonono].It may take over a year for the nerves/feeling to come back if there is damage to them.I had surgery on one of my finger to remove a loonie size tumor---feeling took over a year to come back.DW

Being in the construction/carpentry trade for 25 odd years, I have picked up many pieces of fellow workers after seeing them chopped off in various ways, Thankfully so far none of mine.

Still have all the digits but have come close a few times admittedly. Some of the "old boys" say I have no experience because I have all the pieces. Have to chuckle everytime I hear that one.

Some day I will meet you Alex but I feel your pain. You were lucky and in some ways, that's what matters, it could have been worse.

I know the feeling having to clean up the mess of some of these accidents, it's not fun. I can understand where your wife and daughter are right now also.

It hurts worst at night for some reason, and I hate pills so been up all night. Painkillers don't really work and upset my stomach. Weed does wonders or at least it did the day after it happen but I can't stand the smell. Running out of options :(
Just feeling sorry for myself and restless, I did a few things around the house yesterday and now I'm paying for it.
Can't wait for it to be over and be able to use my hands again, I miss driving the most.

I have a feeling I met you once 10-11 years ago when I was living in Cochrane, but I could be wrong. Met a Jeff that was a carpenter living in Sundre, should be about your age, drove a firetruck red dodge and his wife was stunning, forgot her name tho.
