best shop for oil seals
hey guys,
i think the seal on my MITUSA fuel pump has been weeping for sometime now. i finally emailed opie about it and he gave me a link to the seal needed to replace it with.
http://www.rocketseals.com/catalog/o...-cr-skf%3B7294
he suggested i take this info to a bearing shop to get the seal.
i just tried the greggs website, but my work computer and the catalogue are not getting along well right now. i will try again later, it ususally works.
anyway, failing greggs, what shop would you recommend in south calgary/okotoks area?
also, an oil seal is an oil seal right, any seal with the same measurements/dimensions should work??
thanx,
jason

Looks like the same oil seal I used for the garden tillers gear box...I got my seals from NAPA south...If you call them with the seal number,Only talk to Ryan...Another place I got seals from is Calgary transmission supplies..

a quick google search of 'bc bearing' brings up motion industries just of glenmore west of barlow trail. seems like the right place.
looks like they even carry the specific products to the link above.
maybe i'll pop the pump off and bring it in with the info from the link to ensure the right part . . .
thanx again for the info!

NAPA deals with CR seals, call them. Sometimes when you call specialty places, you get specialty prices, even for run of the mill parts. Call any auto parts places, they should be able to get you the seal.

so i finally tracked it down. NO ONE in calgary has one in stock!
i tried:
bc bearing/motion
kingsway
napa
transmission supply
fluid seal
commercial bearing
commercial bearing was the only one who could have it next day. they want $25 for it.
kingsway was the cheapest @ $18 but had no stock available in canada.
everywhere else was anywhere from 1 week to 6 weeks away with prices ranging from $22 - $35.
next day for $25 wasn't so bad (in comparison) so i'll go monday to get it from commercial.
now for changing it . . . just poke a hole and pull the old one out? is there a special tool to press the new one in?
anyone have any tips/tricks?
thanx,
jason

Probably best to pull the seal housing off the pump to hammer the old seal out and install the new one. Much more likely to damage the new one when installing it in place over a shaft.

yeah i tried fluid seal - they don't deal cr/skf products.
tate -
i thought about taking the housing apart too. i'll pull the hub and pulley and see how it looks. picked up a trick from a guy on the phone to press the new one in with an appropriately sized socket to keep nice even pressure all around . . . i might try that - i'd be worried if i took the housing apart i might create another leak - but probably nothing some gasket maker can't fix . . .

Jason, can you get access to the seal easy. I would drill a small hole and insert a slide hammer into the newly drilled hole. A couple wacks of the hammer, its out. Might need a couple holes drilled so it comes out evenly. Way easier on parts. Probably take few minutes. Once you get the seal out, probably be easier to match the seal up, just takes abit of measuring.
Even its a SKF seal, most seals can be matched to something else. I bet its a standard seal and can be matched.
