Battery cables

Hey, who has built new battery cables? What size cables would everyone recommend? Thanks in advance for any input.

Just for fun, I use 2/0 welding cable for battery cables.

Lots of arguments for and against the fine wire cables, but the ones I use don't give me any grief. Have a set on my chevy that have been on there since 89, no problems so far.

I also use solder on ends, although there is much to be said for crimp on, or hammer on styles.

I might be a bit barbaric in my choices, but they work for me.... and ultimately that is what matters.

good luck with your choices

I make my own cables also. I also use 2/0 cable now, I cheaped out before and all that did was cost me extra money. I use crimp on lugs from a local electrical supply store.
I do have access to lots of 2/0 cable if needed

I'm thinking I will go with 2/0 gauge cable. I prefer to go on the side of overkill. Morkable, I have friends heading up there to work tomorrow, so I may take you up on that! Pm me with details, thanks!

Kevin, I could use some of that 2/0 too - is that the stuff that isnt CSA approved?

Could probably use some lugs too.

Thats the stuff Shane... just found out today too that we are just in time,, they are going to be getting rid of it all. So I have to speak for it tomorrow.. perfect timing,, going to speak for a roll, see what happens (305M)

Once we get that figured out, I will get Kelly to give us a good price on lugs too

That's perfect, I'll defiantly get in on that as well, let me know when you are ready and I'll give you a call and make arrangments with you.

Thanks, Lane.

98fargo - this what you had in mind? Its not easy getting youre hands on the crimpers unless you have direct access to one.

Dr Evil- have you got a source for the military style clamps, all I can find is the marine ones. I need a bunch as ironically my M31a1 military jeep has the marine ones, go figure!

I got those from www.pullpal.com - which is out of Colorado.

Sometime you can find them on ebay and they will ship in a flat rate box.

I think I have finally found a Canadian source. I have been meaning to order some from these guys but havnet got around to it yet. www.quickcable.com

Those clamps are somewhat hard to get here....like a lot of things.

another source is www.custombatterycables.com but they are a mom and pop type business that seems to have sketchy service.

For people who don't need the cable in 1 mile quantities, I am 99% sure I saw that same stuff in the last Princess Auto flyer.
