2nd year Heavy Duty Apprentice

I have a buddy out from BC looking for work. He mainly worked on overhauling and building equipment. If anyone knows of anything decent paying and kinda steady let me know please.

\you know ya hear that all the time.....or used too. I tryed to get on up there as an apprentice HD. no dice at all. apparently if you're a retard from the rock you can get a job anywhere. but heaven forbid your a hard working loyal type guy working on a certification. maybe I didn't know the right people.

Apparently I'm still bitter about that whole thing. [verymad]

but I got no leads for you in Calgary right now. sorry.

Ft Mac is a who you know place,
Just chatting with my buddy tonight he is actually a 1st year who has been working for 5 years in the trade. The company he worked for took advantage and held the carrot over his head when work was slim and promised him the world. Instead he got layed off when times got tougher. He is heading to school in October hopefully if he can get the money together for his second year.
I remember trying to get him out here 3 years ago but he is just stubborn. Wanted to keep his job figured he was lucky to have it. I hate dedicated people they usually get taken advantage of.

LOL,

I go up to Ft.Mac to do training for customers and I am offered all sorts of jobs. I'm definitely not a newfie, but I must look like one or something. :(

Is't a strange world, the more certifiations you get, and the more experence, the less employable a person gets.

That is true to a certain extent. With more experience you become a specialist of sorts - if you are th specialist they are looking for they dont want you. They would rather hire a female newfie with zero experience (I seen that first hand).

Be glad you didn't get that job. I'm sure guys who have worked up there will back me up in saying that Mcmurray isn't a place you want to live. No one is all that friendly, everything is rush rush rush and expensive. When I stayed up there at Kevin's last fall, I became grumpier each day I was up there. If I was in camp, I would have been really bitchy. JMO.

My buddy is up there with SMS as a 2nd year. 10 on 4 off. Says it's pretty busy still. I would say though he's not the type of guy I want to work on my truck [laugh]

It was CNRL and Suncor. never a response. I knew some guys pulling down 200k plus at the big plants as journeyman HD with OT of course. so I said fawkem they can't be that hurting for guys if I can't even get a reply. and it would have been a short term goal (3-5year) plan anyways.

I thought that the business is getting better lately. I'm back to working 7 days a week. I thought that I might have to get a job for abit. Of course I say that tongue in cheek. I've been self-employeed for almost 10 years, so gainfully unemployeed. Just beat the bushes until a job pops out. I found a few jobs in Cow town, by thats from my business.

Its aint roses here, I just about got stuck in Estevan Saskachewan, ya no mud. I took a wrong road and shoot out into a mud field (its just poured like no end here like 1 to 2 hours here). I thought that I was gonna have to buy a tow truck tonight. I just pop the truck into 4wd and floored it. I came out but man the truck is a mess.[laugh]Who says you can't go 4X4ing here in Estevan. Tomorrow I try my hand at crossing the USA border onto Chicago town. Lately they dont like me, they had to sick the dogs onto me. They ripped apart my car last time I crossed the border.[roll] Been mugged shot and finger printed once to often for crossing the border. I wish I was a truck driver sometimes.[laugh]
