2012 Exhaust smell in the cab

I use remote start most of the time. Over the last month, every time I get into the truck, it has a strong smell of exhaust. It has more of a burnt smell then what is coming out of the exhaust pipe.

I notice the smell creep into the cab at stop lights or any time you are stopped and the truck is idling when the truck is cold. Doesn't seem to be as noticeable after running for an hour or so.

Anybody have this issue? Anyway to check for exhaust leaks? Haven't deleted it yet so no COAL rollin out anywhere.

When we deleted the two 2011's I noticed on both trucks that one of the two studs that hold down the rear of the EGR cooler was not in all the way so the nut becomes thread bound, all it took was another washer under the nut. I know this was the same way for a couple of other guys on here, perhaps that's where the exhaust gas is coming from.

Try adding a washer under the inboard nut on the rear of the EGR cooler and retighten, I'll bet that's where your leak is.

Just heard back from the dealer. It was the turbo seal. They are putting in a new gasket under warrenty. Not a clue how this happened with only 30,000 km. I will have to wait till after the weekend to get the truck back. Let you know if this does not solve the issue.

I have the same issue with my '16 2500. During regen mode, I get a STRONG burning exhaust kind of smell. Almost makes a person pass out if the windows are left up. Been to the dealership twice and even with the truck tricked into staying in regen mode and having put 50 miles on it, they can't duplicate the smell issue.

Found a youtube video of some farmer in Arkansas with the same truck and same issue. I won't post the link because the guy talks slower than dripping molasses in the winter and takes 12 min of his 15 min video to get to the point.....

But he said a dealer technician fixed the issue by replacing the EGR Cooler bypass valve as directed in Star Case #5131100008

I'm going to take the case number in to the dealership and ask them to look at this.

My 2017 does the same thing. Let us know if you find anything out as to what is causing this, and how to fix it. Thanks!

My 2015's exhaust smells like unicorn farts compared to the other CTD trucks I've owned.
