Reese Titan Class 5 hitch

Today I'm installing the Reese Titan class 5 hitch and removing the "toy" one. To get the factory one out you have to remove the rear bumper and lift up the truck box 2 inches. I notice Reese have increased the load limits on this hitch, it's much beefier than the one I recently installed on my 01. The new one is rated for 18,000lbs/ 2,000lbs weight carrying and 18,000lbs/2,500lbs weight distributing.

I was planning to order this same hitch for mine. The one thing I was not sure about was - if you have the OEM step bumper, can it go back on? Reading the instructions, I'm just not sure.

After you get it on, how about a couple pics???

I got mine together in about 2 1/2 hours the step bumper does go back on and now bolts to the hitch with 6 bolts. There is not a lot of adjustment for the bumper but I did manage to get it spaced properly after a bit of messing around. Our hitches came with no instructions so I had to print them online before hand. I guess the 2011 are slightly different from 2010 and you will need 2 extra nuts 14mm X2.00 that are NOT in the kit. I am supposed to be doing my sons truck this afternoon and will take some pics of his, mines done but there is not much to see when the bumper is back on.

I have a brand new one laying on the floor of my garage. I am buying a 2011 Ford next week. Hitch has never been installed. It will be in the classified section very soon. They are nice big hitch. I was very impressed when comparing it to the stock one.

My son didn't show yesterday he's coming today, so here's some pics of mine.
2 small bolts either side hold on the bumper. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...8&ppuser=58265
2 small bolts in the center also hold the bumper. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...1&ppuser=58265
3 larger 14mm bolts either side through the frame to attach the hitch, this is where you will be 2 nuts short..https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...0&ppuser=58265
last but not least as it's the dirtiest part you have to drill through the bottom of the frame 2 holes either side. They say 9/16 holes but I went to 5/8 as that is the size of the holes in the hitch and as access is restricted with the exhaust pipe in the way, I thought a 5/8 hole would be more accurate and give more clearance to fish the bolts through. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...9&ppuser=58265.
Hope this helps. If I do my sons today I'll take some pics with the bed lifted and rotating the stock hitch out from the frame.

Thanks Busboy Glad you added that part about the stock hitch. I was wondering how that thing was gotten out of the way. After seeing a few drawings, I started to understand why I see some with the stock hitch still in place. I look forward to any more pics you send our way.

There is no way to use this Reese hitch with the factory hitch still in there. I have seen double hitches but this Reese is exceptional heavy duty. When unbolting the bed you must leave the very forward bolts in and tight or the bed will slide forward and hit the cab. My son has to go back up North in the morning so he will be gone for a month and we'll do his when he gets back, he just ran out of time.

Thanks for the pics Busboy.. Your going to love the B&W hitch when they show up.. Follow the instructions and it goes in problem free. Just one suggestion. If you have to relocate the bracket for the park brake Put the bolt in the square hole in the new location before you put the side plate on the frame of the truck. If you don't you might need to grind off a bit of the bolt head to get it past the frame.

Thanks for the tip, any little bits of info on installations is very helpful and can save a lot of time and aggravation.

Over the years I have drilled a lot of holes into brand new vehicles and just once in the "almost" right place. Picture a new jeep with a new antenna mounted on the front fender where we always put them... now picture a jeep with a fold down windshield. I should have known better as I still have a Landrover with the same style fold down windshield.

Not to worry there's no 4 inch holes related to the Reese class 5 hitch. Grand Geek is referring to the B&W under bed goose hitches and companion I ordered for Monday that I will be installing in both mine and my sons trucks.

Yes that's my 71 it's 40 years old, I've owned it for 33-34 years so it's now getting a body off make over including front disc brakes. I recently sold my 2006 Jeep TJ that was to replace it but I found the jeep couldn't handle the front end loads like the Landrover, which has 9 leafs in the front as opposed to coils on the Jeep, besides after all those years it has become part of the family and I just couldn't sell it.
