locking tailgate...wanna disable it!!!

I don't have a cover on my box, so a locking tailgate is more a nuisance than a convenience. I'de like to disable it but can't find out if it can be done.

To me the idea of the locking tailgate is to stop someone from stealing the tailgate not whats inside the box.

Take the access panel off the inside of the tailgate and unplug the actuator.

Good point about tailgate theft. Hadn't considered that.
Also thanks for pointing out may be able to disable from interior of tailgate. Was focused on a computer type solution.
Now I got a decision to make.

When I purchased my truck in Kansas City, the dealer encouraged me to lock the tail gate as they were getting stolen (easy to remove and expensive to replace...so a good black market for them). Now that I live in Central Maine, I don't lock it. But definitely locked it in KC or when traveling and spending the night at a hotel.

Before you disable it go price a new tailgate then prep and paint then clear coat, you'll keep the lock....

Can always disable the lock and install a water pump clamp (or a hinge cover kit) on the passenger side hinge to prevent unauthorized removal.

Wait, are you staying that your tailgate locks with the key fob? Mine's a good old fashioned key in and turn. Shoot, if I could get a fob actuated unit that would be the cats a$$ heck, if you want to disable that part, just drive around for a while. That POS will seize up and you won't be able to lock it anyway, keyed of course

Adds keyless lock to the tailgate, on applicable vehicles.
