Integrated trailer brake controller

I've been having trouble with the controller for several months. Now, no matter what I do it doesn't show on the display. It looks like a new module will cost at least $200. I'm considering an aftermarket controller if the computer will accept it. Any advice?

On my 2010, I constantly had issues with it. Replaced with an aftermarket and have been very happy. Computer tells me to service trailer brakes on startup - I just press the 'Select' button on the steering wheel and the message goes away.
