FOLD OUT REAR SEAT TOOL TRAY STORAGE RACK : Plastic vs Metal

Just traded my 2004 3500 for a 2015 2500. Much to my chagrin the fold out storage tray is a accessory... my 2004's was made from sturdy metal.. the 2015 appears to be constructed of plastic... will the 2004 fit a 2015? or is the plastic tray "robust"?
thanks all ?

'03 vs. '15

My '03's tray folded out by holding the round knob like handle and lifting and bringing it forward. At the same time, the support leg automatically went from the folded in position to the down/support position. I liked it a lot.

My '15 is different. Not only is it plastic but you have to pull up and lock in place two plastic support legs, then flip the tray forward. More of a pain. The tray rubs the underside of the seat as you pull it up, not like the '03 which moved clear of the seat.

I don't know how long the plastic one will last. It seems sturdy. My trucks came with them as standard equipment so I don't know what the cost would be and I'm not sure if the older tray would fit the newer truck. Let me know if you want a pic or two.

Thanks..i must the overal quality of the 2015 is not nearly as robust as my 2004...one can clearly see the cost cutting measures momma Chrysler has taken....😔

OK, went out to check it out today and I was mistaken. The folded out platform is covered in a carpet like covering so I can't see what it is actually made of and I'm not taking it apart to see. But the legs/supports are plastic.
