Can't decide between a diesel 2500 and a hemi 1500...

Right now, the 1500 that I picked up for my oldest son is getting around 25 MPG so that's what we're driving except in bad weather, then she switches back to her truck. It's cut our fuel costs noticeably, but its still the "fair weather" truck.
Make sure you factor in weather. I don't know what it's like for you, but make sure that you base your decision off other factors (like weather) so you don't end up needing a heavier 4x4 pickup to get where you need.

I once heard from a wise old man:
If you like the idea on owning a truck, buy a 1/2ton.
If you want a truck, buy a 3/4ton.
If you need a truck, buy a 1 ton.
By what it all adds up too and what it sounds like you will need out of a truck, if I were you, I would consider the 1/2 ton.
I work in the oil patch and I am surrounded by trucks and the constant arguements of which is the best...but if you look around the most common 1/2 ton is the ford f150. Hundreds of guys cant be that wrong. I would seriously consider the Ford F150.

Ford F150 6.2L 4x4 Lariet.
I've had a Hemi when they first came out. It was ok.
Seems like the F150 is a better truck though and they hold their value really well. That's what I would have if I didn't have a Dodge/Cummins.

I've had my 06 5.9L since new, and really enjoy driving it. With that said, we replaced my wife's 01 F-150 two weeks ago with a 2011 1500 SLT Lone Star edition with the HEMI. It is one nice truck, and the power of the HEMI is nothing to be ashamed of, 390 HP and 407 ft. lbs of torque. Like you, she does not like the looks of the new F-150s, otherwise we'd probably have bought another. Since you are not towing, all the indicators I see point to the 1500. Go drive one and then decide.
Most likely when my 06 gives up the ghost, I'll be going back to a gasser. The new emission regs have killed the good old diesel days. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would have to say, in your situation, go with the 1500.
Look at the Laramie Longhorns....
Unreal nice!

The 1500 Hemi gets good mileage. If I didn't have to tow that is probably what I would get. If I were in your shoes that is the route I would take.
Do not get a 2500 Hemi and expect good mileage though.

I agree with the others, in your situation it looks like a gasser - but do compare the 3 makes and then make your decision.
one thing to maybe consider - a 1 yr old lease return.... save a ton of cash, but still have some warranty.

I have had both and while I loved my HEMI from the sound and the power it definitely was not up to towing the toyhauler. The Cummins is not nearly spirited drive that the HEMI was. If I could have the Cummins and a SRT8 Challenger I would be car happy.

Hemi. for what you need it for I think that you would like all the options, I have owened both and loved the Hemi but was very expensive to fuel, just my two cents
