Bad Option Combo?
I was bored and decided to "build" a 2010 HD Ram for gits-and-shiggles and when I got the the powertrain section I tried selecting a 6-spd manual with a 4:10 rear end and got this...
You have selected 4.10 Axle Ratio, which requires the addition of 6-Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission.
6-Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission includes:
The total price of this vehicle will increase by $1,625
So there is no option of a 6-spd manual with a 4:10 rear? I dont know if I like that idea.
Also, has anyone heard of this "Tip Starting" option and why its only available for automatics?

I think I can... I think...
I don't mean to Hijack but I was doing the build and with the 6 spd auto one can pick the 3.42 rear end. I'm leaning towards that with the mindset that when I'm not pulling anything I should be able to run much lower RPMs and get better mileage. With a six speed I would think I could find a lower gear for towing that would be fine for large loads.
Is my thinking correct or am I off base here?

tip start is only for the auto's. You only have to bump the key to start it, let off and the truck/car will continue to crank the motor until it starts. Kind of a waste of engineering if you ask me, not really sure why they have it. Something else to add a price to i guess.

My Challenger has the push button start and from what I'm told by other owners theirs have done that. Kinda freaks you out a bit when it just keeps spinning.

I wish the guy who ordered my truck had selected the 3.73 option instead of the 4.10's! no need to be that low on a 6 speed unless its used for hualing extremely heavy loads over rough terrain. way to high of rpm's at 75mph for daily driving.

All the manual trans trucks since 98.5 basically had hill assist. You cannot stall em out. The BRAIN takes over after a certain decrease in rpm from idle. Will scare the sheet out of a unsuspecting engine lugger too...

Ya I don't think it is possible to kill them if you start in first, surprise my ex-gf when I taught her how to drive a stick, that she never killed it. Kinda like cheating I guess.

I don't think the 4.10 has ever been available with the G56... If you go on edmunds in the laramie model you have to opt the 3.73 gears or through one of the Laramie package groups that has 3.73 gears. Then you have to select the 4.10 gears.
So basically you have to select the auto, 3.73 gears (which I believe are essentially free/standard) and then select the 4.10 gears.
I like the 4.10 gears because you can run larger tires with them.

In 05 when the g56 was blended in, 4.10 was still an option. 05-06 the g56 had a different cluster than 07-now and was a very steep geared trans. I drove a 05 with 4.10 and a g56 and it was a steep geared s.o.b. felt like 4.56's were back there. Was perfectly geared for someone who does alot of ranch or site work and hauled heavy locally, or had much bigger tires on. Basically the 3.42 will feel like the 3.73 of earlier 3rd gens. With 4.10s, it would feel like 4.56, maybe a little less with the new cluster but still steep. Since 93 ive owned 8 ram/ctd manual trans trucks. All were 4.10 except for this 05 im in now, it has the nv5600 and i wish it was 4.10. When i buy a new truck, it will have the 3.73 as more reduction is now being done in the trans and gives the same affect or more as 4.10's of earlier trucks that most of us have been use to. 3.42 is now the standard manual trans gear with 3.73 being the work horse gear....
