Auto mirrors
 

My nephew bought a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie diesel last night and brought it over for me to look at. I had not seen a 2017 model up close but was amazed how similar the cabin looked to my 2014 3500. There was a couple of differences like the center console but the rest looked the same.

One thing I did notice is that he has a switch to close his outside mirrors and mine does not have this feature although there is a blank plate where one could be added. Does anyone know if this can be added without a lot of work or cost? I always fold my mirrors because of where I park.

No idea on your 2017, but on mine I converted the mirrors to auto folding. Bought the mirrors from 1A Auto which as far as I know is the only place that sells the auto folding mirrors. Changing the mirrors is easy as all that was involved was removing the liner on both doors to allow access to the 3 nuts holding each mirror on.

The biggest problem I had was finding which wire to tap into for the turn signal lights on the mirror. If you are lucky, your truck came with turn signal lights already in the mirror, so that solves that problem. Running the new wires through the rubber boots from the door to the door post is a minor pain, but take your time and it is not too bad.

Generally the job is not very hard to do. I would imagine that you can install the new switch where that blanking plate is now.

If you discover some other company that sells these auto folding mirrors, please let us know. Or will you use the OEM folding mirrors? If you do, let us know what they cost.
