2012 Ram cold weather cover installation questions

I have a 2012 ram 3500 longhorn Laramie and all the videos I watch on the installation of the snaps on the bottom are always going into a plastic push pin like thing that is two parts as do the instructions. But on my truck they are a solid rubber stopper piece? Does anyone know anything about this?

Also another question. The installation instructions say to take it off when temps reach 50 degrees f but other forums have said to only use it when ambient temps are around 14 degrees f? When is it helping and when is it just adding stress to the engine?
