2010 3500 hissing under dash

Last Saturday we loaded the bikes in the trailer and headed to the track. After a fun day of MX we loaded up and started to head home. Soon after starting the truck ( 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 Cummins ) I noticed an obvious hissing noise which apparently only I could hear. The noise would stop if you applied the brakes and would change when steering. I did not experience any change in the brakes they appear to be working fine. I did some checking on a forum or two and find that this noise most likely is from the lining in the hose assembly that fails and becomes lodged into the booster. I took the truck into the local dealer to have a look at it, as I am not a mechanic or even a weekend warrior. The service tech calls and says that it is the lining and it is in the booster. They will need to replace the hose and the booster and a cost of $1,400.00

Does this sound right or do I need to go to another dealer? Thanks your advice is appreciated.

Patti

37,600 miles on it, just outside the 36,000 warranty

Thanks for the link. Just read through it. So... if I'm reading right, Lil Dog only replaced the hose which means replacing the Boost is not necessary???

Thanks

That is correct. He just replaced the hose and not the entire booster.

thats garbage they wont replace it now. It is a common problem. Its only th ehose itself, not the booster. If they wont replace the hose for free, buy the hose from another dealer and replace it yourself

Nope they would not do it for free. Apparently this is not happened before. I told them I only wanted the hose replaced, cost me 323.00 Sometimes I think they like to take advantage of me cause I'm a girl and I have an expensive truck. Dont like to think of things that way but sometimes...

Fixing it myself would have been a nice option if I knew what I was doing under that hood. Would like to have more mechanical abilitites, maybe someday.

Picked it up, the tech guy would not say a word to me. Go Figure. Took it out for a drive, about 100 +/- miles round trip with no problems.

Thanks

My in-cab hiss occurs when I have my air cooled seats turned on. Hopefully thats all whats going on.

The only vaccum is for the power brakes, which is under the hood. My 02 kicks the air line off every once and awhile. Its easy to figure out, as my brakes get really stiff and my cruise doesn't work. Just about everything on the 4th gen is electronic powered/controlled.
