1 month after going back to a manual
In just a few days my truck will be a month old. One hard decision was to go back with a manual transmission. I also went with 3.42 gears, that really made me nervous. But the G56 gearing with the 3.42 gears is perfect!!
I have been pulling anhydrous tanks about 17k you can't pull them fast 25 / 30 mph. They are double trailers that put no weight on the truck. I have a turn at the bottom of a very steep hill. Even with a 1000 pounds of extra weight in the box of my truck. It will push me to a slide. This is where I absolutely love the manual! First gear I can go down this hill and the exhaust brake holds me back, don't even have to touch the brakes
When stock my 14 pulled just as good as my 12 did with the auto. I would say the 14 definitely pulled better down low
I put TS's Stryker on, adds 130 hp and 200 tq, Clutch handles it just fine. I feel I can safely run this truck wide open with this power add on.

I have always liked manuals better than automatics. You get to choose the correct gear for the situation every time without fighting an automatic's shift algorithm that wants to always keep you in the highest gear possible. You also feel more connected to the vehicle and the road. But it is getting harder and harder to get a manual and, in the case of the Ram, the Cummins is detuned a little for the manual.

Sad for sure. I have always been a manual guy but when I began my search for a good used cummins it wasn't long before the realization that I would end up with an auto. There were some out there but most were 4x4. I'm pulling fifth wheel so 2x4 was preferred to keep it level. I did find some 2x4's but would have had to drive half way across the country just to look at it. I miss my clutch!

A relative of mine picked up a 2014 2500 4x4 with the G56. The 2014 trucks is light years ahead of my old 2003. Wished my NV5600 shifted as nice as the G56!

my 2003 is getting long in the tooth at 250k at 300k a 2014+ will with a stick will be in the future. i do wish dodge would have gone with the zf 6 speed instead of the g56 but thats just me the sf’s even to the day are cheaper to rebuild, have a higher torque rating and imho are a stronger setup other than that though it’ll be a g56 when i buy my next truck.

i have an aisin. I miss my G56. I will never buy another auto in a truck again. No problems with it. Just prefer a stick while towing. at about 20mph the auto and jake stop working. on my manual, i could downshift down to 5 mph.
Plus with the stryker, you will be right where the auto is with stryker.
