Well looky here....
Guess what has decided to show up....
http://madselectronics.com/index.html I do have to admit. I'm tempted. [redface] |
You went to the dark side long ago! [laugh] It has been a long wait for anyone in those new fangled Gen4s wanting anything other than a JR..

Well little brother wants to give the H&S tranny tuning a whirl so we may swap tuners next time we meet up.
That way I can give a fair assessment of both. Too bad he's in Oklahoma and I'm in the Houston area. Might be a bit before I see him. |
I've been looking around at finding a used XRT PRo just for the overdrive software. Ugh.. not much luck .
|
Seems like not many run the XRT Pro. Mostly MiniMaxx guys. I'm just a fan of analog gauges.
And I let SouthBend and LazerSmith handle the tranny tuning. :D |
This may be a dumb question, but to update my truck with new smarty programming do I have to:
1. return truck to stock, then update smarty with new program and then reprogram truck; or 2. update smarty with new software and then reprogram the truck? |
Either will get the job done but option two is quite a bit quicker and easier.

Dog, I can arrange for you to try out a black maxx H&S tuner, too bad the overdrive is vin locked. It makes the truck night and day from stock tuning. To bad dodge didn't tune the transmission like H&S has done. Even works the exhaust brake harder (as you have more engine rpm than factory), during coasting. The H&S tuning for the 3rd gen seems to put out more power than the 4th gen. My truck dynoed at 410rwhp (early tunes) during one of our dyno events back in 2010. Too bad the RFE68 transmission has so many design issues and everyone has written it off for high performance.
Not sure if the 4th guys have seen the H&S MCC programmer. Looks to have similar mapping as EFI live has, but is only for the 2010 and newer. http://www.hsperformance.com/mcc/ |
I wonder how their technical support compares to H&S? H&S has always answered my questions with a solution when I called.
|
So I re programed my truck and went on a 50 mile test drive. Set on SW1.
Results: Fantastic throttle response, a lot less turbo lag, eased off at 32 psi of boost (45 mph in 5th). And man does it build fast, the truck responds to throttle inputs almost instantly. I'm scared to try the other settings. Might have to start thinking about a new clutch in the future...and head studs too. |

I've run MADS Smarty since before the programmer when you had to send your ECM to get reprogrammed and I've never had an issue that required immediate help so I can't comment on that, but I've never failed to receive a response from Bob within a couple days via email or phone. I am a big fan of the simplicity as well as the (IMHO) extreme beta testing. The download and updating is a bit obtuse, but once you've done it one time it's a piece of cake. I beta tested with my 2nd gen and Marco wanted to know ANYTHING that I thought might be helpful, down to the gnat's sack. BTW, Bob replied within 10 minutes today and my S-67 will be coming next week!! WOO HOO!!
Oh yeah, just my $0.02 |
