The Cummings 6.7 Turbo Diesel & I'm experiencing
Excessive tire wear! I'm on 2cnd set of tires at 36,505 miles
& tires are bald!!! Needing 2 buy another set. Truck came w/
Transforce tires, & got about 13,500 out of them. My second set
BF Goodrich All-Tettain A/T got about same. Admitally I have a lead foot!
But can anyone suggest a tire brand & model, as well as anything else I can do
To get better mileage out of tire?
How often do you rotate your tires? How are they wearing out? One side or all the way across? Just fronts or all 4? What kind of roads do you drive? Even a new truck can have an issue.
FYI I would stay away form any BFG tire. I bought a set of 4 and after the 7th replacement in just a few months I made them give me a complete refund. They are awful tires. They would self destruct. Some in weeks.
BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A. On my third set. 75K out of the first set (OEM), over 75K on the second set. Tires rotated every 7500 miles (for the most part). Just over 151K miles on truck. I probably could have stretched those tires at least another 1K-2K miles. Second set saw about 5K miles with a toyhauler.
It really depends on how you drive, rotations on a regular basis and proper inflation. I'd tend to lean towards your driving style as being the culprit. How are they wearing?
Roads and road conditions matter a lot more than would first appear. The gravel roads in the missile complex in WY would eat alive a set of Cooper STs in 20k no problem when the tires would go 40k easy on pavement.
Tire wear can even vary a lot with KIND of pavement. Asphalt for example gives less wear than concrete does.
My tire advice:
1) Tires are a wear item. A tire that doesn't wear out until 75k almost certainly is terrible at the other things a tire is supposed to do: steer, stop, go.
2) Don't be a lead foot
3) Rotate as necessary
4) Balance with beads or centramatics (lower temp, better control, less wear)
5) Buy good tires to begin with instead of a bargain basement from the local shop.
6) Don't overload them. If you need more load capacity, step up to 19.5s like Ricksons or something.

My tires do EXCELLENT. Both on road and off road, rain or shine, or in and out of snow. Never a problem with steering, stopping, and definitely no problem going...for 75K miles x2

my suggestion; trade the lead for a featherreally , try Michelin tires ! i have really good wear on mine
On my 2014 2500 got less than 30K on the original Firestones. Really a junk time. On my 2007 5.9 with a tuner got over 72K and still had a little tread, though not much. I drove the 07 a lot harder than the 14 and was really dissapointed with the tries, wear and really poor traction also. Bought a sut of Coopers, Unmder $900 set of 4. Good ridde, decent traction and ageter another 10K wear seems good.I am not very heavy footed but do occasionally push it but if a tuned 5.9 got over 70k I should have gottena t least 50K on the Firestones. You can bet next truck or car will not have Firestones on it or I won't buy it.
With my 08' 2500 Mega Cab TD 4x4, I couldn't get more the 25-30K out of a set of tires. I rotated them @ 5K miles, ran correct psi, and tries several different brands. Finally I tried Nitto Exo Grapplers. The Nitto sales rep said I would get 60K miles out of them, No problem. They are a duel compound tire. They have a more aggressive tread pattern than an all-terrain, but nowhere near as aggressive as a mud terrain. They have a little road noise, but nothing to complain about. I got 55K out of the first set, and they still had a little meat left when I replaced them. I bought a second set about 6 months ago, and the still looked new when I traded the 08' in for my 18'. After 1 week the 18' got Methods, and a set of Nitto's too.
Waking up this thread again. Ive noticed my 2014 ram 3500 SRW is wearing my front passenger tire on the outside much faster than any other tire. My buddy has a 2016 Ram 3500 SRW also and his front passenger wheel bearing went bad at around 17k miles and his did the same thing to his front passenger tire.
When I rotated my tires i checked the wheel bearing play and couldnt tell forsure but it felt like i had some(more than the driver side) movement... Anyone else have wheel bearing issues or premature tire wear?
I'll never buy another BFGoodrich tire again. The last set I got, which were expensive, I got every penny I spent on them after the 7th one was replaced for self destruction. Absolutely horrible tires.
