Programer
I have a bone stock 2011 2500 CTD, auto and 3.42 gears. Love the truck but the mileage leaves something to be desired. My 2005 (auto and 3.73 gears) got 17-19 on the road when driven like an old man. 70 mph on the interstate. (I am an old man!). But this 2011 only gets 13-14.
My question is do I gain anything by using a street programmer or tuner? Just looking for a mileage increase, don't need more power. I have read about unplugging the EGR, better mileage but it will set a code. Will a programmer fix this? Any problems with an unplugged EGR and the DPF still on the truck (ie: street tuner)? Thanks for any help. |
what is your RPM at 70mph? I thought the 3.42 was not available in the auto trans format in 2011.

Before any "changes" I got around 15 mpg in town driving and at best 17.9 mpg hiway.
Unplugging the egr boosted hiway up to 19.3 mpg. I have no info on city unplugged. After tuning I'm getting between 17.8-18.3 in mixed city (70%) and hiway (30%) driving. I have no data yet on all hiway. A Smarty won't handle the code but if you but a pre US tuner you can run their street tunes while you wait for the parts to fall off. Afterwards you can load the ME tune and all good. I don't remember the H&S tuner but it can disable only the egr, or the dpf, or both and would handle the code. Its normally only one code and I just check codes a couple times a month to make sure nothing new has popped up. |
