Installed Mini Maxx -- Observations.

Hey Guys...

I wanted a hand-held tuner like the XRT or the Smarty 6.7 but they're not available. So I gave in and bought something that just might be a bit better...

Been putting the H & S Performance Mini Maxx through it's paces and here are some first impressions...

* I'm dedicated to analyzing the tool with DPF present (initially -- I may have trouble controlling myself and not doing the deletes).
* This is a slick product.
* The hot tune is quite impressive.
* Whoever worked on the user interface at H&S deserves some serious credit. It's very intuitive. Without reading the manual I was able to do just about everything.
* I went to Radio Shack and bought a 12v accessory plug with mini fuse and wired the unit in that way to the 12v accessory plug on the left side of the center of the dash. This one turns off and on with the Key and that's what the Mini Maxx needs. I'll attach some pictures further down in the thread.
* The hot tune is quite impressive.
* The informational gauges and the tire size calibration are very slick.
* The Special Features worked like a charm (auto lock / unlock / fogs with high beams, etc...) -- feels like I have a Star Scan Tool LITE.
* Hooked it up to my 2008 CAN BUS PT Cruiser and it said I had no error codes -- AND SET THE SPECIAL FEATURES on that car. None of the gauges seemed to work.
* The DPF present tunes are nice. I would like to know if the NO POWER / 0 HP Tune has any modifications from stock.... ????
* I noticed that there are more regens with the hotter tunes. I guess this is to be expected. I hope it's not necessarily a negative thing.
* The off idle lag / hesitation / delay when depressing the pedal seems a better when using the HOT tune. Guessing that DPF and EGR deleting would help that a bunch.

That's about all I got.

Pictures below.

Thanks all!

Power feeds from this fused 12v accessory plug into special plug on OBDII port. I just tucked the cables away nicely under the steering column area with a twist tie... Conventional install has you punch a hole to the engine bay and wire into fuse 45 in the fusebox which is also an ignition controlled accessory circuit. But I wanted something I could cleanly remove with absolutely no trace of the install.

Nice setup! What is the difference between the Mini Maxx and Black Maxx as far as what it can do? Does that suction mount come with the box? Overall, looks nice!

I think they have the same specs -- just a smaller screen with the mini maxx...

Suction mount came with it. It's a pretty nice package. Software version 6.8.3 (latest for 2010 RAM) seems to be very stable.

Thanks for the feedback!

Welcome. I just signed up over there yesterday. They seem tyranical.

Hi Terry! Nice to see you over here. Yup -- They are. It's a nice board tho. Lots of good information. Just a little heavy-handed. It's all good tho... :)

This Mini Maxx is something else. I can't explain it but it makes me want to order a DPF delete pipe and carefully stow my DPF and run without regens.... [laugh]

Nice easy setup, looks good. Just so you guys know, there is a rubber grommet that the parking brake cable runs through the fire wall. Its a tight fit but you can run the power and pyro cable there without cutting anything.

Actually I think it is the hood latch cable

Thanks arcojet -- I saw that and was about to pull the trigger and then the lightbulb went off to try this. When I finally go "all-in" and do the DPF delete and the pyro I'll be pushing the wires through and making this more permanent.

Right now -- "baby steps!" [coffee]

You can make your own delete pipe. Here a picture of mine. I just built mine with scraps in my garage.

I got over 1600 deg's on my truck on the weekend, I was trying to run with a 98-12v 3500 buddy.

Thanks I've already thought about that part. Just trying to hang out with the cool trucks, or its a middle age thing.[laugh][duhhh]

Mike, where can you buy a flange like that? Also, approx how long of a piece of pipe do you need? Are you using the stock muffler? thanks

Mike Holmen 08-18-2010 06:36 PM

I just traced out the gasket that came out off the dpf and cut it out of 3/8 plate. Its 4in exhaust pipe and yes I'm using the stock exhaust. You can hardly tell the difference if you listen. At wot its nosier, but still pretty quiet. I put the stock gaskets back in with a good coating of anti-seize.
